Jian Lam is an Eidolon physicist and inventor who discovered Aerolith and designed levitating barges and platforms over 300 years ago. Jian serves as Assembly Overseer, teaching about Aerolith properties and airship technology.
Historical Achievements
Jian Lam worked over 300 years ago during the early development of Asgartha. Jian discovered and pioneered the use of Aerolith, a material that emerged with the Confluence. The Tumult Nomads had mentioned floating ruins and rocks suspended in air as if by magic during their travels. Jian Lam realized this was not a simple freak of nature but a new element that could be exploited.
Jian designed levitating barges and platforms along with lots of other unconventional and visionary inventions. In a way, the capital looks the way it does today thanks to Jian’s work, with lakeside areas that float above the water without support columns.
Role as Teacher
375 AC - Teaching Treyst and Paju
Jian Lam taught about Aerolith properties to Axiom apprentices including Treyst and Paju. Jian placed a hand on an Aerolith core, tapping its surface while explaining its properties. Jian pressed a button and the Aerolith sphere rose a few inches. Jian then activated a dorsal propeller and rose as well.
Jian explained that the Aerolith core is located in the middle of airships just behind the cockpit, acting as a flotation device. By sending pulses to it, pilots can adjust altitude, while Kelon motors propel the ship forward and backward. Jian instructed students to put on jet packs for practical lessons.
Teaching Style
It’s not always easy to follow Jian’s explanations. Paju described Jian as someone who’s absent-mindedly passionate and has the temperament of a dreamer. But when Jian talks about inventions, eyes sparkle and enthusiasm is infectious. Jian sometimes loses track of time and lessons never finish when they’re supposed to.
Support from Ayxas
In 70 AC, during the early reign of Ayxas as Kuningas, Ayxas funded the research of Jian Lam, the physicist studying the properties of Aerolithe. This support contributed to the development of Asgartha’s floating architecture and airship technology.
