Treyst
Overview
Treyst is an Axiom Exalt and engineer who serves in the Expeditionary Corps. He is paraplegic due to a crash that killed his best friend Paju and requires Kelonic batteries implanted in his spine to walk. He is bonded to Rossum, a Chimera accidentally trapped in an Automaton body, through The Musubi.
Background
Treyst grew up as a ward in the Kurung orphanage in Arkaster alongside Paju. Lacking natural affinity for Alteration, they applied to the Axiom and trained at The Foundry. Paju became a pilot while Treyst, rejected due to faulty vision, became a navigator. They joined the aeronaval contingent and were incorporated into The Fulcrum. A crash during a reconnaissance mission killed Paju and left Treyst paraplegic, requiring Kelonic spinal implants to walk. Treyst subsequently worked in Graft manufacturing before collaborating with Frankenstein on an Eidolon-Automaton fusion project that accidentally created Rossum.
Timeline
370 AC - Apprentice Work
Treyst and Paju transported Kelon cylinders between shipyard and charging stations as Apprentices.
372 AC - Repair Training
Treyst and Paju helped Tessalit Girum repair an airship using kelonic bolt-poppers.
375 AC - Aerolith Training
Jian Lam taught Treyst about Aerolith properties and airship altitude adjustment.
378 AC - Achieving Flight
Paju became pilot and Treyst became navigator; they joined the aeronaval contingent.
379 AC - Fatal Crash
During a reconnaissance mission, a creature’s tentacle struck their aerodyne. Treyst summoned Amelia Earhart to stabilize the ship, but an explosion caused a crash. Paju died and Treyst’s spinal column fractured along with both legs and one arm.
380 AC - Kelonic Recovery
The Grems activated a Kelonic Generator to charge Treyst’s mechanical vertebra, enabling him to walk using Kelon batteries.
382 AC - Graft Manufacturing
Treyst worked at The Foundry alongside Ganesha, fitting patients with prostheses.
390 AC - Frankenstein’s Proposal
Frankenstein proposed using Grafts to create Automata by projecting memories inside them, referencing Paju.
391 AC - Studying Coppélia
Frankenstein showed Treyst Coppélia at The Athanor—a porcelain doll with a mechanical Kelon heart that stabilized Eidolons.
391 AC - Rossum’s Creation
Treyst’s attempt to pair Paju’s Eidolon with an Automaton triggered a Tumult Singularity, trapping a Chimera in the metal shell instead.
392 AC - Waru’s Budget Denial
Waru Toowoom denied Treyst a budget for improving his Automatons as part of his campaign obstructing Rediscovery Endeavor operations.
392 AC - Armored Jammer Deployment
Treyst operated an armored tank beyond The Rampart while Subhash Kadis deployed shielded Jammers to cover the advance of Ordis and Bravos troops.
392 AC - Tumult Expedition
Rossum consoled Treyst with binary tinkling as they crossed shifting ground.
393 AC - Frozen Lake Rescue at Storvhit
Treyst remained on shore with his armored vehicle during a rescue operation at Storvhit, unable to venture onto breaking ice while Subhash Kadis sprinted across to reach Nyala.
~393 AC - Snowy Pass with Vaike Swiftwater
Treyst traveled through snowy pass at Storvhit with Vaike Swiftwater leading the party using her heat cannon, and converted a kelonic heater into a heat gun with her help.
~393 AC - Cliff Ascent with Mechanical Spider
Treyst used his mechanical spider to scale vertical rock face at Storvhit while Rossum wore scarf and mittens given by Fen.
~393 AC - Frozen Delivery Supply Drop
Treyst received supply drop from zeppelin at Storvhit containing Cornucoopia-branded provisions and Axiom gear, navigating his spider carefully while Rossum clung to the vehicle to avoid moisture damage.
~393 AC - Kelonic Heater at Night Camp
Treyst arrived at night camp at Storvhit with mechanical spider slowed by ice and brought a kelonic heater to shivering engineers.
~393 AC - Icebound Hollow Exploration
Treyst explored cave at Storvhit with a porter, discovering walls of gypsum, ice, and pyrite with bioluminescent glow, before noticing rising water on the floor.
393 AC - Sap Sniffer Research
Treyst observed a prospector and his Sap Sniffer delivering Sap containers to his workshop, noting the creature’s behavior and questioning whether Sniffers develop addiction to Sap.
393 AC - Dredger Drone Observation
Treyst visited a dig site to investigate a Sap vein with Rossum, observing the coordinated rotation of Dredger Drones performing excavation work with hive-like precision.
393 AC - Sap Delivery from Aberdeen
Aberdeen nearly collided with Treyst on her unicycle while delivering Sap samples from Sierra, with Rossum showing interest in the unicycle while Treyst mapped vein locations from her descriptions.
393 AC - Refinery Conversion Activation
Treyst witnessed the successful activation of The Refinery’s Kelon-to-Sap conversion alongside Subhash Kadis and other engineers after a five-week standstill, watching as Sap rushed through conduits from the City of Scholars into the vats.
393 AC - City of Scholars Excavation
During excavation at the City of Scholars, Treyst operated drilling equipment to extract the Sap from sealed reservoirs. Arjun revealed the substance was likely the Sap of a world-tree that the ancient inhabitants had drained, causing the city’s decline. When drilling triggered a Tumult Singularity, Yzmir Initiates appeared through portals to evacuate personnel. Rossum tackled Treyst to the ground, saving him from a falling block, then helped him escape as his Kelonic braces smoked from the strain.
393 AC - Destruction of The Maze
Treyst participated in the Exalt operation against The Hunger in The Maze. His role was to trigger explosive charges as a last resort if the psychic contact attempt failed. When The Hunger shifted to aggression and Atsadi and Kojo Oduro engaged in combat, someone shouted Treyst’s name. He slammed the detonator button, triggering a chain reaction of successive explosions that spread from the upper levels into the depths. The charges shattered the floating memory blocks and struck their Aerolith cores, causing every Tesseract to detonate in a furious chain reaction. Treyst glimpsed Akesha Adhikari slowing the collapse as Yzmir mages opened portals to evacuate the Exalts before the cataclysm buried them.
