Thoth

Thoth is a highly learned Eidolon scholar whose knowledge is comparable only to Quetzalcóatl. He specializes in translating cryptic and antiquated manuscripts.

Appearance

Thoth has bird eyes that make reading his emotions difficult. He uses quills and inkwells for transcription work. He can stare hard at individuals, though whether displaying anger or confusion is unclear from his avian features.

Scholarship and Translation

Thoth’s learning is unmatched in Asgartha except perhaps by Quetzalcóatl. He specializes in deciphering cryptic and antiquated manuscripts, particularly precious and delicate books about Tumult Nomads.

He works by leafing through pages, tilting his head to better decipher contents. When translating, he dips quill in inkwell and transcribes passages page by page. He hands translated fragments to those who request his services.

Translation Process

Thoth examines manuscripts rather than expressing surprise about how they came into possession of those requesting translation. His focus remains on content rather than provenance. He works methodically, translating specific passages that appear relevant or significant.

Translating Tumult Nomad Memoir

367 AC - Deciphering Grimoire for Waru

Waru brought old grimoire to Thoth needing help to decipher cryptic and antiquated manuscript. Books about Tumult Nomads are most precious and most delicate. Rather than being surprised Waru possessed valuable tome, Thoth started to leaf through pages, tilting head to better decipher contents.

He dipped quill in inkwell and began transcribing certain passages. Waru hoped memoirs would contain powerful idea everyone could rally around, toward which Rediscovery Endeavor principle could gravitate.

Thoth handed Waru page after page containing fragments he had translated. Waru read carefully. There were interesting mentions of future of lost tribe and intriguing anecdotes about Shepherds of each caravan. But nothing lent weight to aims of great endeavor or measured up to scope of what they hoped to accomplish.

On other side of bay window, sunlight had turned to coppery glow of dusk. Thoth handed new page containing text: “The City of Scholars, where source of Tumult is engraved…”
