The Drifter
Overview
The Drifter is a mysterious foreign traveler who visited the City of Scholars in ancient times, accompanied by seven fierce warrior protectors known as The Seven Blades. Ancient writings and memories preserved in the city’s stone record his presence, though his origins, true identity, and ultimate fate remain unknown.
Association with The Seven Blades
The Drifter traveled with The Seven Blades—seven legendary swordsmen who served as his protectors. Before departing the City of Scholars, The Drifter asked at least one of these warriors, Fiore dei Liberi, to remain behind as a sacrifice.
The Drifter imprisoned Fiore within the city’s memory library, telling him: “You will stay here, Fiore. The fate I’ve reserved for you is far from enviable, but it’s the sacrifice I ask of you. This stone will be your prison—for centuries. Until he comes to set you free.”
When Fiore asked about the promised duel against the worthiest of opponents, The Drifter confirmed Fiore would eventually face such a challenger. Fiore accepted, willing to wait an eternity for the opportunity. The Drifter thanked him as a friend before departing.
Historical Records
The former inhabitants of the City of Scholars referred to The Drifter as a foreign traveler who came to the city long ago. Ancient writings discovered by Atsadi during the Rediscovery Endeavor mentioned The Drifter and his seven warrior companions, leading Atsadi to seek the memory library where records of them might exist.
