Filiki

Overview

Filiki was a Muna and the partner of Basira al-Arshad. He was calm, patient, and dreamy in temperament—the opposite of Basira’s irascible nature. They had four children together: two boys and two girls. His death shortly before the Rediscovery Endeavor’s departure prompted Basira to return to active duty.

Background

Filiki met Basira al-Arshad during her years in Caer Kettria, where she had retreated after surviving the Cebir disaster. Where Basira was cynical and realistic, Filiki had a dreamy temperament. For many years, their family life allowed Basira to set aside her pain and fury. Filiki had sayings about moderation that Basira later reminisced about.

When Basira started to lose control, Filiki would smile gently without speaking or laying out arguments. His expression conveyed: “Whatever happens, I trust you to choose the right path.”

Filiki died as the departure date for exploration forces approached. His death marked the end of what Basira described as an “enchanted parenthesis” in her life, leading her to resign as a Seiringar instructor and rejoin the field.
