Glyptoyak
Overview
Glyptoyaks are a livestock species raised in the Vanderun Shards region of Caer Esvander. They are herded by shepherds across the floating islands and undergo annual transhumance to high plateau pastures.
Behavior
Glyptoyaks are not typically skittish animals. Individual animals display distinct behavioral patterns. Shepherds familiar with their herds can identify each beast at a glance by their quirks and temperament.
Glyptoyaks possess the ability to sense seismic events minutes before tremors strike. In the Vanderun Shards, where earthquakes frequently occur when floating islands collide, this early warning behavior proves invaluable to shepherds and farming communities.
Husbandry
Glyptoyak herds undergo annual transhumance, traveling for weeks to reach high plateau summer pastures. Shepherds drive them with the aid of dogs, using whistles, tongue clicks, and hoots to direct the flock. The journey requires careful preparation to ensure nothing is forgotten, and the trek can be demanding, sometimes following cliffsides.
