Overview

Emergence is an initiation rite undergone by those who wish to become Lyra Alterers. The ritual is not without danger.

The Ritual

Only those who demonstrate exceptional artistic abilities within the Lyra are invited to become Alterers. Applicants must undergo Emergence, which involves entering a Tumult singularity and allowing themselves to be transformed by it. An Alterer always accompanies them to limit the extent of the metamorphosis, but the process is inherently risky.

Physical Alterations

That’s why the vast majority of the Lyra visibly bear a physical alteration of their being. It can be a simple change in hair color, a parasitism by the idea of an element, or even the appearance of crow wings on their backs. There are countless different mutations.

While most are cosmetic and non-functional, a small part of the Lyra inherit talents from this exposure, such as increased longevity, the ability to breathe underwater, or regenerate their limbs.

Variability

The extent of the marks varies, mainly depending on the violence of The Tumult and the degree of control exercised by their guide.
