Floral Tent

Floral Tent is a form of shelter created through Alteration magic, manifesting as a structure made from living plant matter including petals, leaves, and pistils. The tent provides protection from extreme weather conditions such as blizzards while maintaining internal warmth and structural integrity.

Structure and Characteristics

Floral tents are grown rather than constructed, using Alteration to create living shelters from plant material:

Physical Components:

  • Petal walls that can be buffeted by swirling winds
  • Crown of leaves positioned to deflect wind force
  • Floral membrane entrance that can be opened by gentle touch
  • Pistils that glow when night falls, providing internal illumination

Growing Process

Creating floral tent requires Alteration magic to grow living shelter quickly enough to provide emergency protection. Arjun successfully grew floral tent shelter during Storvhit blizzard within rocky gorge pass, fortunate to get shelter to grow despite violent weather.

Multiple floral tents can be grown simultaneously across dispersed locations. During Storvhit expedition, mushs sent out by explorers returned communicating through mycelium that other floral tents were able to grow, providing shelter for all other explorers scattered by storm.

Use During Rediscovery Endeavor

393 AC - Sheltering Rin at Storvhit

During blizzard at Storvhit, Rin fell from height through storm. Arjun took nearly hour to reach Rin through blizzard, long enough for her body temperature to drop noticeably. Arjun and Orchid rescued Rin from powder snow.

Arjun grew floral tent shelter within rocky gorge pass. All around them, petals of floral tent were buffeted by swirling winds. Arjun placed hand on Rin’s forehead in tent finding no sign of fever. Crown of leaves was well-positioned in line with wind to deflect lot of force. Arjun provided warmth through conjured fire using Alteration while Orchid hunted for food.

Strong gust rattled petal walls and whistled angrily in ears. Spike wrapped in blanket looking worried and dejected. Pistils started glowing, indicating night must be falling outside. There was sudden scratching at entrance to tent. Arjun gently touched floral membrane to make it open slightly. Mush Arjun had sent out to seek word from other explorers entered covered in snow and thoroughly frozen, snuggling among pistils to soak in warmth.

Mushroom regained composure and communicated through mycelium that other floral tents were able to grow, providing shelter for all other explorers. Arjun breathed sigh of relief and waited for Rin to wake.

393 AC - Taking Down Camp

When taking down floral tent before striking camp, Rin found seeds in bottom of Arjun’s pots. Rin and Arjun decided to share seeds, as Arjun had done with Teija.

Relationships to Other Concepts

Floral tents represent practical application of Alteration magic for survival purposes. Unlike permanent structures, these shelters are temporary constructs that can be grown rapidly in emergency situations. They demonstrate Muna faction’s deep connection to plant life and ability to work with nature rather than against it.
