Storhvit

Overview

Storvhit is an arctic region in the Terra Incognita beyond Caer Oorun, named by the first scouts of the Rediscovery Endeavor exploration forces. The region contains six distinct biome environments centered on Cais Adarra, a mountain harboring the dead world-tree The Nilam within which dragon Oneiros Kuraokami was imprisoned for approximately ninety years. The region’s polar climate was entirely artificial, engineered by the Chrysanthemum Cloaked Warlock as the second wall of a triple-layered containment system, and was designated Caer Nilam Province following Kuraokami’s liberation in May 393 AC.

Geography and Climate

Storvhit lies beyond the borders of Caer Oorun in harsher Tumult conditions than the rehabilitated Province. The mutagenic effects of the Tumult are mitigated by a strong entrenched idea of cold, ice, and winter emanating from Cais Adarra, whose peak glows with vivid blue light day and night. Meteorologists observed that Tumult winds are repelled by the rocky peak, identifying it as an Oasis or pocket of stability. Weather within the region is highly unpredictable, with conditions deteriorating within hours as capricious Tumult-generated winds sweep the landscape.

The Expeditionary Corps identified six distinct biome environments:

  • Tundra: Vast snow-covered plains interrupted by coral-like formations similar to those at Makonis Heights, with marine-environment patterns adapted for terrestrial conditions suggesting the same wave of concepts influenced both locations and the Enosha peninsula plateaus.
  • Taiga: Boreal forest of towering conifers, birch groves with otherworldly hues, and oaks and ash trees with quartz-like pink foliage, populated by white-furred and feathered animals camouflaged in the iridescent landscape.
  • Frozen Lake: Circular ice sheet centered on Cais Adarra, riddled with fissures and teeming beneath the surface with bioluminescent life forms including rays, jellyfish, narwhals, and orcas.
  • Canyon: Narrow glacial pass splitting the lake in two, with towering ice walls, partially submerged sections requiring boat traversal, and colossal aquatic creatures visible through the translucent barriers.
  • Caverns: Underground network of crystal formations beneath the glacier and mountain base, with phosphorescent stalactites, stalagmites, columns, and pools shaped by centuries of erosion.
  • Spur: Steep jagged slope of Cais Adarra itself, with sharp rock formations, sheer cliffs, and translucent blue topaz ice bulges that appear illuminated from within.

Engineered Origin

The region’s arctic climate was not natural. Prior to approximately 303 AC, Cais Adarra and the surrounding area enjoyed a mild climate similar to the Tilted Steppes of Caer Oorun. The Chrysanthemum Cloaked Warlock engineered sudden glaciation using Kuraokami’s siphoned essence as the second wall of a triple-layered prison system, transforming the area from temperate to polar wasteland. A pre-glaciation human settlement of several hundred people at Cais Adarra abandoned the site when cold overtook the region. Soil analysis conducted by Sierra in 393 AC confirmed the transformation occurred within only a few decades. The third wall of the prison system consisted of the Belisenki, a moth-like species created by the Warlock as guardians suited to cold who would repel outsiders from approaching the mountain.

Substance residues and relics found in the region indicate the City of Scholars had a presence at Cais Adarra before glaciation, when the climate was still mild.

Ecosystem

Storvhit supports an endemic ecosystem adapted to its arctic conditions. Winter Folk is the term for arctic fauna exhibiting pseudo-societal consciousness with an interspecies social hierarchy, where predators defend typical prey species against intrusion. Documented species include Magpengs, Ice Shrimp, and Hakupopo.

Mana Moths are ethereal non-corporeal creatures composed of pure Mana, discovered at Cerulean Hollow within the region. They exist in symbiosis with the Belisenki, who absorb Mana diffused by the moths to anchor the concept of cold within themselves, offering protection in return. The vast majority of Storvhit’s endemic fauna feed on abandoned Mana Moth chrysalides, absorbing pheromones that cause Belisenki to perceive them as moths deserving of protection. Massive swarms of Mana Moths were found congregating around The Nilam, confirming the dead world-tree as a focal point for the species.

The Snow Wraith, also called Spirit of the Snows, is a disembodied voice phenomenon reported by early explorers, manifesting as whispers, ground-shaking roars, or an almost tangible presence capable of triggering avalanches or fracturing glacier surfaces. The entity did not appear hostile and on occasion aided explorers by dislodging rocks to create paths or closing fissures in ice. The Snow Wraith was later identified as Kuraokami, the imprisoned Oneiros projecting its voice from within Cais Adarra.

Timeline

~303 AC — Engineered Glaciation

The Chrysanthemum Cloaked Warlock imprisoned Kuraokami within The Nilam at Cais Adarra and constructed a triple-walled prison system, with the region’s engineered glaciation and deployment of Belisenki as the outer containment layers.

January 15, 393 AC — Expeditionary Corps Deployment

The vanguard of the Expeditionary Corps deployed to Storvhit, with Temera Singh documenting six biome environments and the strategic objective of reaching Cais Adarra as a secure haven against Tumult singularities. A decision was made to deploy explorer contingents from The Ouroboros when Tumult currents were calm, with Exalts and select Alterers shielding troops while Axiom deployed probes to survey terrain ahead. Troops were encouraged to diversify their Eidolon repertoire with cold-adapted entities such as Jack Frost, the Snow Queen, and Skadi.

January 393 AC — Avalanche Rescue Operation

Temera Singh ordered The Ouroboros toward a distress signal from a snowy pass where an avalanche had descended, deploying Brassbugs via parachute from the main hangar to assist rescue efforts while troop contingents were spread thin due to Belisenki hostilities.

January 29, 393 AC — Winter Folk Documented

Saskia Averina documented the Winter Folk phenomenon, observing arctic fauna exhibiting interspecies social hierarchy and cooperative behavior across species that would typically be predator and prey.

February 21, 393 AC — Belisenki Hostilities Escalate

Temera Singh documented escalating conflict with Belisenki targeting Expeditionary Corps convoys using guerrilla warfare tactics, with sporadic skirmishes escalating into daily clashes by late February. Axiom zoologists identified the species as eusocial moth-like creatures with soldier and field medic castes capable of wielding minor Alteration.

March 5, 393 AC — Kuraokami Discovery

Temera Singh documented the discovery of Kuraokami, a primordial dragon Oneiros imprisoned at the heart of Cais Adarra, identifying an ethical conflict between The Covenant and The Concord obligations and proposing consultation with Faction representatives.

March 19, 393 AC — Mana Moths Discovery

A Yzmir mage exploring Cerulean Hollow discovered swarms of Mana Moths. Saskia Averina and other scholars studied the non-corporeal species, identifying the symbiotic relationship between Mana Moths and Belisenki and proposing that humans consuming chrysalides could gain pheromone protection.

March 26, 393 AC — Cais Adarra Base Camp

Drawing on theories of Moyo Chibuye, the Expeditionary Corps traversed Belisenki territory using chrysalis-derived pheromone protection and established a makeshift camp at Cais Adarra foothills.

April 2, 393 AC — The Nilam Discovered

Temera Singh documented the discovery of The Nilam, a colossal dead world-tree within Cais Adarra with proportions rivaling The Spindle. Muna arborists proposed establishing a Tenth Refuge (Refuge of Snow) while The Asterion sought incorporation of Storvhit as a Province.

May 393 AC — Kuraokami Liberation and Climate Crisis

Exalts shattered The Nilam’s prison, liberating Kuraokami. The dragon’s departure caused temperatures to rise with snow, glaciers, and ice caps melting at alarming rate, revealing the climate had been entirely artificial. Swift action was required to safeguard the Winter Folk and prevent ecosystem deterioration.

May 15, 393 AC — Caer Nilam Governance Established

Temera Singh granted temporary governance of Storvhit to Ordis with Yzmir support, designating the region Caer Nilam Province. Jack Frost was selected as replacement patronage to maintain the arctic climate, chosen for immanent nature over other Oneiros candidates deemed too human-centered or incapable of generating cold. Muna envoys had urged natural reserve status modeled on Katkera, but the decision prioritized regulatory oversight given anticipated political pressure and corporate interest in the region’s resources.
