Will-o’-the-Wisp
Overview
Will-o’-the-Wisp is an Eidolon manifesting as small glowing spark that can lead travelers astray. The entity appears as pink luminous ball resembling ghostly soap bubble or bloated firefly, capable of darting through terrain with otherworldly allure. Will-o’-the-Wisps are stuff of legends, possessing irresistible charm that compels observers to follow their dancing movements.
Appearance
Will-o’-the-Wisps appear as little pink sparks that glow in fading light, tinting ice and snow with beautiful pink shimmer. They resemble:
- Ghostly soap bubbles
- Bloated fireflies
- Small glowing balls
- Wispy assistants
The entities dart and weave between obstacles like coral flowers, moving with magical fluidity. They perform little dances as they approach targets, weaving through frozen landscapes with hypnotic grace.
Behavior
Will-o’-the-Wisps lead travelers off intended paths through dance-like movements and otherworldly allure. They rush down slopes, flit between terrain features, and start dancing to take observers off beaten paths. Multiple Will-o’-the-Wisps can be summoned simultaneously if single spark proves insufficient to captivate targets.
The creatures possess irresistible charm that compels people to follow them, with resistance being virtually impossible. Their legendary nature makes them particularly effective at misdirection, as people cannot help but be drawn to their movements.
Performance Use
Lyra performers have used Will-o’-the-Wisps many times in shows to distract or captivate audiences. These little glowing balls work perfectly each time for theatrical purposes, demonstrating reliable effectiveness in drawing attention and manipulating crowd focus. The entities serve as tools for both entertainment and practical misdirection.
Summoning at Storvhit
393 AC - Scout Misdirection
Auraq materialized Will-o’-the-Wisp at Storvhit to mislead scouts who were heading directly toward Belisenki nest. Auraq stood on bluff looking down at scouts moving below, deciding to send them wrong way to get blood flowing in their legs while protecting them from danger.
Auraq materialized Will-o’-the-Wisp in brief moment, and little pink spark started glowing in fading light, tinting ice with beautiful pink shimmer. With little blow, Auraq pushed spark toward explorers and it rushed down slope, darting between coral flowers like ghostly soap bubble.
Will-o’-the-Wisp approached scouts weaving between frozen petals like bloated firefly, beginning little dance to take them off beaten path. Auraq felt sorry for scouts who would be upset when realizing they were lost in wilderness far from objective, but reasoned this was better than stumbling into Belisenki nest. Auraq prepared to send more Will-o’-the-Wisps if scouts refused to follow first one, confident they wouldn’t be able to resist otherworldly allure.
