Belisenki
Overview
Belisenki (singular: Belasenka), also called “White Shadows,” are giant moth-like eusocial species inhabiting Storhvit and defending Cais Adarra mountain. Created by the Chrysanthemum Cloaked Warlock as the third wall of Kuraokami’s prison system, the species exhibits swarm intelligence and the ability to wield minor Alteration manifesting cold-related phenomena.
Morphology and Biology
Axiom zoologists studied Belasenka remains during the Rediscovery Endeavor (February 393 AC) and noted striking resemblance to the order Lepidoptera, though far surpassing typical moths in size. Individuals reach up to 150 centimeters in height with a wingspan of three to four meters. Bodies are covered in thick fur-like down, and two pairs of wings bear patterns mimicking stone and snow. White coloration provides camouflage against snowy cliffs, birch forests, and arctic terrain. Feathery antennae detect movement from kilometers away.
Belisenki exhibit eusocial behavior comparable to termites or bees. Observed castes include soldiers engaged in defensive actions and field medics that use saliva as antiseptic to treat wounded individuals. Their cognition resembles swarm intelligence rather than individual consciousness, enabling coordinated operations across multiple groups simultaneously. Colony location is suspected deep within Cais Adarra mountain itself.
Origin
The Chrysanthemum Cloaked Warlock created Belisenki as the third wall of Kuraokami’s triple-layered prison at Cais Adarra (~303 AC). The first wall was The Nilam’s fossilized bark as physical containment; the second was engineered glaciation using the dragon’s siphoned essence; the third was Belisenki, a species designed to be suited to cold and driven to keep outsiders away. The entire Storhvit ecosystem was deliberately constructed, with Belisenki programmed to defend the mountain from human intrusion. Saskia Averina confirmed to Sylas that Belisenki and Storvhit had performed their intended roles, describing the region as a testing ground offered to her by Sylas.
Territorial Defense
Belisenki defend Cais Adarra through guerrilla warfare tactics including ambushes on convoys and hunting parties, sabotage of vehicles and installations, and persistent harassment campaigns. Aggression increases with proximity to the mountain — the species is relatively scarce in tundra and taiga but becomes increasingly dangerous as forces approach Cais Adarra.
Belisenki wield minor Alteration to manifest snow, ice, and other cold-related weather phenomena. This ability drains their life force and appears reserved as a last resort. Witnesses reported an Axiom Reprocessor entirely encased in ice after a swarm attack.
Muna attempted negotiation through The Skein, but every diplomatic effort failed. Ordis debated whether Coalescence could link minds with the species, but the hierarchy was reluctant to welcome an alien psyche into The Gestalt. The approaching Tumult wave forced the Expeditionary Corps to press toward Cais Adarra despite Belisenki opposition, as the mountain’s Oasis was the only available shelter.
Symbiosis with Mana Moths
Belisenki maintain a symbiotic relationship with Mana Moths, an ethereal moth species discovered at Cerulean Hollow. Belisenki absorb Mana diffused by the moths to anchor the concept of cold within themselves — an ability dependent on their capacity to manipulate Mana. In exchange, Belisenki offer protection to the ethereal moths, comparable to ants tending aphids for honeydew. Discovery of Belisenki molts in the same areas as Mana Moths colonies supports this relationship.
Belisenki perceive animals that have consumed Mana Moths chrysalides as if they were moths themselves, instinctively offering protection due to absorbed pheromones. This mechanism explains why the vast majority of Storhvit endemic fauna feed on abandoned chrysalides, gaining both nutrients and Belisenki guardianship. Saskia Averina proposed that chrysalis consumption could allow the Expeditionary Corps to evade Belisenki vigilance through biological deception.
Timeline
~303 AC — Creation
Chrysanthemum Cloaked Warlock created and deployed Belisenki as guardians of Kuraokami’s prison at Cais Adarra.
393 AC — Camp Attack at Storvhit
Nauraa encountered coordinated Belisenki response while on hunting expedition in Storhvit birch forest. Belisenki pursued Nauraa back to camp, where the expedition’s six members (including Saskia Averina and three Bravos swordsmen) had already disappeared — tents frozen solid, claw marks visible, no bodies found. Teija manifested Simbi to provide Mana during Nauraa’s escape.
February 21, 393 AC — Expeditionary Corps Hostilities Documented
Temera Singh recorded systematic Belisenki campaign against Rediscovery Endeavor operations in formal logbook entry. What began as sporadic skirmishes following the first hunting party attack had escalated into daily clashes across Storhvit.
February 393 AC — Night Assault on Ordis Convoy
Belisenki swarm of approximately forty attacked the northern sector of an Ordis convoy at Storhvit, triggering Yzmir alert wards. Gulrang Oduro commanded shield wall defense while the swarm deployed ice spike Alteration and aerial diving attacks. Afanas Korovinovich unleashed a shockwave that disrupted the assault. The engagement required Exalt-level Alteration to repel.
393 AC — Chrysalis Field Test
During a subsequent Belisenki night assault, Akesha Adhikari arrived through portal bearing Mana Moths chrysalides for soldiers to consume. After expedition members consumed chrysalides containing absorbed pheromones, Belisenki ceased attacking within moments. A Belasenka that Gulrang Oduro had trapped in marble broke free but showed no aggression, and swarms departed the battlefield. The field test confirmed that chrysalis consumption grants protection through biological deception.
May 393 AC — Post-Liberation Status
Following Kuraokami’s liberation and departure from Cais Adarra, Storhvit temperatures rose and glaciers began melting. Jack Frost was selected as replacement Oneiros to sustain the arctic climate necessary for Belisenki survival. Yzmir provided protective cocoons enabling Expeditionary Corps operations despite ongoing Belisenki hostility.
May 393 AC — Caer Nilam Governance
Belisenki were recognized alongside Winter Folk as indigenous populations requiring diplomatic engagement during Caer Nilam Province development. Temporary governance of Storhvit was granted to Ordis supported by Yzmir, with Yzmir’s role specifically justified by their provision of protective cocoons. Muna mediators were positioned as primary diplomatic interface for managing Belisenki relations.
