Issur

Overview

Issur (140–187 AC) was a philosopher of Asgarthan Metaphysics who founded the Issurian school of thought on the postulate that the world tends toward equilibrium. He developed the Theory of the Two Circles, proposing that reality and The Empyrean undergo regular cyclical Confluences that would ultimately culminate in a state of hyper-reality. He died of The Nifir and later became an Oneiros.

Background

Theory of the Two Circles

Issur’s foundational theory imagined two spheres made of complementary substances, each suspended by a string and set in pendular motion. The spheres would approach one another until passing through each other, then move apart to opposite sides, repeating cyclically. At each encounter, the two substances mixed and grew more deeply intertwined. For Issur, The Confluence was neither an isolated event nor an anomaly — reality underwent regular Confluences separated by thousands of years. He proposed that mythological ages were the result of past collisions, followed by stabilization phases before the next. Ultimately, the pendular motion would cease, culminating in a perfect state of hyper-reality where reality and the Empyrean fully merged.

Rivalry with Calfuray

Issur’s contemporary Calfuray (142–208 AC) advanced an opposing thesis, and their dialectic animated the philosophical scene throughout the late second century. Despite their pronounced intellectual rivalry, they shared a deep mutual respect. When Issur lay dying of the Nifir, Calfuray was the first to go to his bedside and remained there for many days despite the health risks, keeping his mind engaged through long debates.

Timeline

157 AC - Testimony at Muna Faction Panel

Issur testified at the panel to decide the Muna’s status as a Faction, speaking favorably of the Muna’s relationship with nature and their practice of introspection. He noted that if the Muna’s claims about The Skein were true — that Mana existed before the Confluence as an invisible fabric connecting all things — it could open new perspectives on stabilizing reality.

187 AC - Death from the Nifir

Issur died of The Nifir. Calfuray was the first to come to his bedside and remained at his side for many days despite the health risks.

Legacy

Issur’s teachings founded the Issurian school of philosophy, whose adherents include the politician Bokang Nkoe. Moyo Chibuye, an Yzmir Exalt studying Mana Moths, considered summoning Issur’s Eidolon for assistance, noting that studying Mana Moths could have helped Issur refine his theory on hyper-reality.
