The Oneiroi

Overview

There are myriad entities beyond The Veil: some are only memories, lingering fleetingly in the world of imagination until oblivion takes them away, while others are much older, existing since time immemorial.

Notable Examples

Their names have resonated in the human world for millennia: Horus, Sleeping Beauty, Amaterasu, Peter Pan, or Fafnir, to name a few. And these creatures of the imagination call themselves the Oneiroi, the inhabitants of dreams.

Evolution of Pantheons

While once the Oneiroi gathered in distinct and clearly identified “pantheons”, the globalization of human civilization has made them meet, clash, exchange, and form alliances within The Empyrean.

Gods and other imaginary creatures united based on the concept underlying their identity rather than their regional affiliation. Thus, Actaeon began to associate more often with Tzapotlatena than Aphrodite, and Conall Cernach spent more time with Hercules than with Lug. This progressive reshuffling of the cards profoundly disrupted the geopolitics of the Empyrean.

Impact of the Confluence

The Confluence has dislocated the world of imagination as much as it has devastated reality. The Oneiroi have been isolated, separated. Their realms have fractured for some. Others have been annihilated or lost. Their power, once extraordinary, has diminished following the near-extinction of humanity.

Alliance with Humanity

That is why they provide assistance to humans, as their fates are deeply intertwined. It is said that the Oneiroi can visit humans through their dreams, but Alteration now allows them to exist temporarily in reality.

Over the years, humans and the Oneiroi, though separated by the Veil, have forged deep bonds, aiming to move forward hand in hand. When summoned through Alteration, they manifest as Eidolons.
