Maya Vastag

Overview

Maya Vastag was a Lyra boatswain who accompanied the explorer Abelen Sundström on her legendary voyages. Together they discovered Abelena island, found a new passage through the Undersea, and mapped the eastern shores known as Keleti.

Expeditions with Abelen Sundström

As boatswain aboard Abelen’s ship, the Stormward, Maya participated in some of the most daring explorations in Asgarthan history. Their discoveries included an island far off the coast of the Peninsula (named Abelena after Abelen) and a new passage between Suspira and the capital that winds through the Undersea, cutting journey time in half.

In 271 AC, they were the first to defy the terror of the Kraken by sailing for several weeks along the southern coast of Caer Oorun without encountering the giant squid. More than a hundred years before the Rediscovery Endeavor, the Stormward paved the way for future explorers.

Encounter with Kacchena

Maya Vastag is remembered alongside Kacchena, the Turtle Leviathan of the Cierna, in legendary stories passed down through generations. The nature of their encounter remains unclear, but the pairing of Maya and Kacchena appears in tales alongside other famous human-Leviathan relationships such as Niavhe and Kaibara, and Nuur Tamrat and Annoba.

Legacy

The exploits of Maya Vastag and Abelen Sundström inspired future generations of explorers. Basileus Avkan ruun-Heshkari cited their voyages among those that gave birth to his dream of the Rediscovery Endeavor.
