Timeline

~146 AC - Battle with Kaibara and Conquest of Caer Oorun

The Kraken challenged Kaibara for control of Caer Oorun. The two colossi battled for days, ravaging the Province and raining ruin and destruction upon the human enclaves. Entire villages were wiped off the map and fields were laid to waste. At the end of this titanic confrontation, Kaibara, defeated, had to retreat, leaving Caer Oorun in the hands of the victorious Kraken.

The conquest forced displacement of the population to the Anthea peninsula. In great haste, The Rampart was built to prevent the Kraken from threatening the rest of the peninsula, and the Solstice Gate was sealed forever. This event coincided with The Nifir epidemic and contributed to conditions leading to The Fratricidal War.

Many explorers believe the Kraken took up residence in the Turbulent Shores, which is why they avoid venturing too far into those reefs.

305 AC - Attack on Korovinovich Family

Kraken attacked frigate carrying Afanas Korovinovich’s family en route from Arkaster to Caer Oorun. Korovin (Afanas’s father, a Bravos Leviathan harpooner) and the rest of the family perished. Afanas survived after being rescued by Qaasin.

328 AC - Failed Bravos Expedition

Bravos expedition to reclaim Cebir failed. Afanas Korovinovich began suspecting a sorcerer had established a lair within the abandoned fortress.

392 AC, September - Battle of Madan Bay

Expeditionary Corps mounted coordinated assault using all six Factions. The Ouroboros served as bait to lure Kraken. Muna created massive plant cages from seed bags in the bay while Yzmir Mages attempted to call down a meteor strike.

Unknown attacker (presumably Chrysanthemum Cloaked Warlock) destroyed the meteor strike, freeing Kraken from the plant prison. Sabotage resulted in casualties including Battle Mages Asta and Elewa, and Matera who sacrificed herself protecting Afanas Korovinovich.

Kaibara arrived and engaged Kraken. Kojo Oduro gathered massive amounts of Mana, creating localized Tumult conditions. Afanas Korovinovich opened portal for Kojo to strike from above. Kojo delivered blow that vaporized Kraken entirely.

392 AC - Perjurer Discussion

Sylas and Saskia Averina discussed the Kraken at Sylas’s workshop. The creature had served as puppet for The Perjurers conspiracy, hiding research conducted at Cebir fortress and enabling Saskia’s experiments. Sylas noted the Kraken had “outlived its purpose.”

392 AC - Suha’s Investigation

Suha, Yzmir Horomancer, investigated Kraken after defeat. Discovered creature’s name originated from literary source (“Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea” by Jules Verne from World Before) rather than taxonomic classification used for documented Leviathans. Unlike previous Leviathan defeats where carcasses remained (Annoba, Cadracal), Kraken left no physical remains.

392 AC - Yzmir Magister Vote

Yzmir Magisters voted on whether Kraken should be added to Faction’s summoning arsenal. Malefane (Eidomancy) voted in favor. Nasir (Gephyromancy) voted against. Tarjani (Phonomancy) advised caution. Egon (Kinemancy) voted in favor. Chambulla (Horomancy) cast deciding vote in favor. Vote passed 3-2.

393 AC, May - Wanjiru’s Eidolon Theory

At Cais Adarra, Wanjiru proposed to Afanas Korovinovich that Kraken was not genuine Leviathan but Eidolon summoning created by The Perjurers. Arguments included: absence of physical remains, Sylas’s confirmation as “puppet,” literary rather than taxonomic name origin, and purpose aligned with preventing Asgarthan expansion. Afanas acknowledged theory as “possible” but considered it unconfirmed.
