Peredur Zan

Overview

Peredur Zan was an Yzmir Phonomancer who served as personal advisor to Basileus Manssur. His controversial appointment and growing influence over the Basileus — which Affan Cathal later presented as magical bewitchment — made many view Manssur as a tyrant. Zan’s assassination by Cathal in The Asterion palace corridors was the catalyst for The Three Factions War. His daughter Perjin Zan later executed Cathal during armistice negotiations.

Background

Peredur Zan’s appointment as personal advisor to Basileus Manssur was controversial from the outset, with many voices raised against it. Over the years, he gained significant influence and openly undermined factions other than the Yzmir, leading many to view Manssur as a new Ayxas. After his assassination, Affan Cathal presented evidence to The Tetrarchy that Zan had used his magic and voice to bewitch the Basileus.

Timeline

~288 AC - Assassination in the Asterion

Ordis Templar Affan Cathal, with the help of sympathizers, assassinated Zan in The Asterion palace corridors. Cathal fled far from the capital. The Yzmir demanded that Basileus Manssur imprison complicit Ordis officials and surrender Cathal, prompting Manssur to take Ordis diplomats and politicians hostage.
