Megalith Fragment

Overview

A Megalith Fragment is an extremely rare piece of material carved from The Megalith, the titanic floating relic suspended within The Well of Tears. These fragments serve as catalysts for magical power, allowing Yzmir Initiates to manifest imagination with greater efficiency.

Acquisition Ritual

The rare chosen ones who attain the position of Yzmir mage are allowed access to The Well of Tears, the heart of the Bastion. Above the underground lake infused with magic floats The Megalith, vibrating with power and seemingly suspended between worlds.

There, future mages:

  1. Take a small hammer and chisel
  2. Carefully carve out a Fragment of the Megalith
  3. Have the Fragment set into a jewel
  4. Keep it on their person at all times

Function as Catalyst

The Megalith Fragment acts as a catalyst for magical power by:

  • Amplifying the practitioner’s connection to Aether
  • Enabling more efficient manifestation of ideas
  • Enhancing the practice of The Naali
  • Facilitating the channeling of concepts from the collective unconscious

Extreme Rarity

The material is described as extremely rare, which is fitting given that:

  • Only a few dozen aspirants per year become Initiates
  • Each Initiate carves only a single small Fragment
  • The Megalith itself is a unique relic from the Confluence
  • The process requires access to the most sacred part of the Yzmir Bastion

Significance in Yzmir Tradition

Receiving permission to carve a Megalith Fragment represents the culmination of the rigorous selection process for becoming a Yzmir mage. After confirming receptivity to Alteration and proximity to one or more Spheres of magic, and passing bizarre and enigmatic tests, only then can an aspirant access The Well of Tears to claim their Fragment.

The Fragment serves as both a practical tool for enhanced magical practice and a symbol of acceptance into the inner circle of Yzmir Initiates.
