Drillmole

The Drillmole is a remote-controlled mobile drilling vehicle developed by the Axiom for underground exploration operations at the City of Scholars.

Design

The Drillmole is an all-terrain vehicle fitted with tracks for mobility and a massive auger mounted on its front for drilling through rock. Unlike conventional static drilling installations, the Drillmole was designed for mobility to navigate the unpredictable underground structure of the City of Scholars, where fixed installations proved impractical and drilling without knowledge of what lay beyond walls posed significant risks.

Timeline

393 AC - Test Incident

During initial field testing at the City of Scholars, the Drillmole successfully drilled into rock but its remote control became unresponsive, causing the vehicle to emerge unexpectedly in a Muna field at The Farm where engineers later attributed the malfunction to an antenna problem.
