Cerulean Hollow

Overview

Cerulean Hollow is a network of winding tunnels and cavities within Storvhit, discovered during the Rediscovery Endeavor in 393 AC. The location serves as the primary habitat for Mana Moths, ethereal moth species composed of pure Mana.

Discovery

In March 393 AC, a Yzmir mage exploring the winding tunnels of the Cerulean Hollow happened upon a secluded grotto by pure chance. The hidden cavity, far from the open air, was home to swarms of ethereal Mana Moths. Saskia Averina and other scholars were invited to study the creatures and their astonishing properties.

Physical Description

The Cerulean Hollow consists of:

  • Winding tunnels: Network of passages through rock or ice
  • Secluded grotto: Hidden cavity serving as the main Mana Moths habitat
  • Enclosed spaces: Protected environment far from open air

Mana Concentration

The cavity housing the Mana Moths exhibits an exceptionally high concentration of ambient Mana—comparable almost to that found in a mush nursery. The Moths’ presence refines Mana, saturating the air with energy rather than condensing it into droplets.

Ecological Significance

Cerulean Hollow represents an ideal habitat for Mana Moths due to its characteristics:

  • Seclusion: Hidden from sight and protected from the elements
  • Shelter: Far from open air where predators hunt
  • Protection: Safe from Hakupopo, which prey on Mana Moth caterpillars in open snow

The enclosed, sheltered nature of the space ensures the survival of the Mana Moths’ reproductive cycle.

Symbiotic Relationship

The discovery of Belisenki molts in the same areas as Mana Moths colonies within the Cerulean Hollow supports the theory of symbiotic relationship between the two species. Belisenki absorb Mana diffused by the Moths to anchor the concept of cold within themselves, while offering protection to the ethereal butterflies.

Relationships

  • Storvhit: Parent region containing Cerulean Hollow
  • Mana Moths: Ethereal species inhabiting the grotto
  • Belisenki: Symbiotic species found in same areas
  • Saskia Averina: Muna Naturalist who studied the location (March 393 AC)
  • Yzmir: Faction whose mage discovered the site
  • Hakupopo: Predators from which the hollow provides protection
