Jayu Region

The Jayu Desert, also known as the Jayu region, is a geographic area within the province of Caer Oorun, located north-west of Caer Oorun’s central areas and approximately 100 miles from Arkaster. The region contains a Tumult Singularity manifesting strange and dangerous phenomena.

Geography

The Jayu Desert is a desert of ocher red, traversed by rocky formations with a tortured aspect. Here and there, salt accumulations cling to the ground, in tumuli or in more extensive dunes. While some areas are covered with a thin film of water reflecting the clouds, most of this biome is arid and desolate.

The region’s proximity to Arkaster makes it one of the closer explored territories during the Rediscovery Endeavor, yet also one of the most dangerous due to the Tumult Singularity present.

Tumult Singularity Phenomena

Strange Manifestations

The region exhibits disturbing phenomena possibly linked to the presence of a Tumult Singularity. Troops stationed in the Jayu Desert reported multiple anomalous occurrences:

Rings of Light: Rings of light appear in the night sky above the desert.

Transformative Beams: Beams of light emerge that turn everything they touch into red salt. This transformation effect poses an extreme hazard to exploratory forces and equipment.

Ongoing Investigations

As of January 393 AC, investigations into the phenomena were ongoing. The nature and danger level of the manifestations remained under assessment by the Expeditionary Corps.

January 393 AC - Disturbing Reports

In January 393 AC, disturbing reports reached Waru Toowoom through his network of informants regarding the exploratory forces stationed in the Jayu Desert. The reports of strange phenomena prompted urgent deliberations about appropriate responses.

Council of Factions Response

The Council of Factions hesitated on the nature of forces to deploy to the Jayu Region given the anomalous conditions. Temera Singh faced numerous requests regarding the deployment while attempting to strike a delicate balance in her decision-making.

Temera Singh mentioned merit as a factor in her deployment considerations, though the specific implementation of this criterion remained unclear. Waru Toowoom expressed uncertainty about her intended approach and suggested his correspondent might have insight into her plans.

Strategic Challenges

The Jayu Region presents unique challenges for the Rediscovery Endeavor:

  • Anomalous Threats: Unpredictable Tumult manifestations requiring specialized responses
  • Force Deployment: Difficult decisions about appropriate personnel and resources
  • Research vs. Safety: Balancing investigation of phenomena with protection of troops
  • Unknown Variables: Ongoing uncertainty about the Singularity’s nature and extent
