Aurora

Overview

Aurora is an Eidolon and goddess—daughter of Hyperion, sister of the Sun and Moon, and herald of the new day. She was the romantic companion of Atsadi and is currently imprisoned in a crystal cocoon created by a Tumult singularity near Dusk. Before her imprisonment, she channeled her power through a cicada to create Surge and save Atsadi’s life.

Relationship with Atsadi

When Atsadi was old enough to watch over his family’s goat herds alone in Dusk, he invoked Aurora to play and ward off loneliness, giving her the appearance of a child his age. As years passed, Aurora became his accomplice and confidante, her appearance changing to reflect his own age. They fell in love, and despite the difference in their conditions—her eternal as an Eidolon, him mortal—they imagined a lifetime together.

Aurora taught Atsadi Alteration, and he fashioned marvelous groves and lakes in return. A cicada constantly accompanied them, later landing on Atsadi’s shoulder.

The Crystal Prison

One night, a Tumult singularity struck while they slept on a boat. The grass turned pink before crystallizing, and water enveloped Aurora before freezing like ice around her. Atsadi grabbed her hand and pulled with all his might, but his arm was ensnared in turn as thousands of splinters pierced his flesh.

Through the translucent crystal barrier, Aurora stared intensely at Atsadi. Light emanated from her and struck the cicada that had always accompanied them. She managed to imbue the cicada with a portion of her power, successfully creating Surge—a new being fashioned from crackling light who severed Atsadi’s ensnared arm and cauterized the wounds, saving his life.

Current Status

Aurora remains encased in crystal at the glass lake on the heights of Dusk. No tool or weapon can break her prison. Surge revealed that only Excalibur could crack the crystal jail. Atsadi made a vow before the Lady of the Lake to become the world’s greatest swordsman so he could wield Excalibur and free Aurora.
