Overview

Excalibur is a mythical sword of legendary power, guarded by the Lady of the Lake. According to Surge, only the heir of the King of Kings can boast of wielding this blade. The sword is said to be capable of slicing through mountain peaks, cleaving the waters of the sea, and cracking crystal prisons created by Tumult singularities.

The Guardian

The Lady of the Lake has been Excalibur’s protector since time immemorial. Only the greatest swordsman in the world can be considered worthy to draw Excalibur from its sheath. When Atsadi invoked her and begged to be entrusted with the sword, she could not grant his request despite his pleading—she explained that she could not absolve herself of her duty.

Aurora’s Prison

Surge revealed Excalibur’s existence to Atsadi as the solution to freeing Aurora from her crystal prison. Atsadi had struck her cocoon with his valid hand, but no tool or weapon could break it. He summoned Eidolons through Alteration to ask for help, but none could breach the crystal jail. Only Excalibur possesses the power necessary to crack the prison.

Atsadi’s Quest

To obtain Excalibur, Atsadi made a vow before the Lady of the Lake to become the world’s greatest swordsman. She advised him to seek out Bedivere because she too had lost an arm and would be most apt to help him surpass his limits. Following Bedivere’s teachings, Atsadi developed the Galisgi fighting style and has defeated legendary warriors including Tomoe Gozen, Achilles, Sun Wukong, and Hua Mulan. His ultimate challenge is identifying and defeating The Seven Blades of The Lost Tribe.

Sealing the Megalith

Excalibur also serves a protective function. In 386 AC, Nimue plunged Excalibur into The Megalith’s mass of Aether to help seal the Tumult singularity, leaving the blade buried almost to the hilt.
