The Mandates

Overview

The Mandates are a set of strict conventions and rules regarding the use of magical talents imposed by the Yzmir upon themselves. They serve as ethical guidelines to prevent abuse of the considerable power accumulated by Initiates.

History

The history of the Yzmir Faction, particularly in its early years, was marked by sorcerers who abused their powers and used them for their own benefit. The Mandates were established to prevent such abuses from recurring.

The First Mandate

The first Mandate serves as the foundation for all others:

Initiates must never use their gifts for personal gain, but always for a cause or an ideal in which they believe.

Bound Eidolons

Certain Eidolons are bound by the Mandates and cannot be summoned under normal circumstances. Mantichora and Khimaira are examples of bound Eidolons—their illegal manifestation during the Cebir massacre in 352 AC indicated the involvement of a renegade Yzmir mage who violated the Mandates.
