The Veil

Overview

From time immemorial, the immaterial was separated from the real world by the Veil, a barrier that overlaid the entire world and maintained the balance between these two planes of existence. On one side was The Empyrean, the realm of dreams and imagination, and on the other, reality, synonymous with the material world.

Permeability

It was partly porous: ideas could traverse the Veil in both directions. This is how the two planes interacted and mutually enriched each other. Humans drew inspiration from the Empyrean to shape reality, through dreams or imagination; in return, what they created influenced the dream world, giving rise to new beings, new landscapes, new objects.

Appearance

For those who manage to see it, the Veil is a multi-faceted canvas that ripples with the currents of ideas flowing through it. Its surface is iridescent, fluid, as if shaped by northern lights. Otherwise, this undulating blanket that overlays reality like a moiré sea remains invisible to the eyes of mortals.

The Weakening

During The Confluence, the Veil suddenly weakened without explanation, allowing a part of the realms of the Empyrean to cross the barrier and superimpose itself onto reality.
