The Song of One
Overview
The Song of One is a legendary unifying song that was sung by all nine Lyra Clans together more than a century ago. Through this collective performance, the Lyra saved Asgartha from ruin. The song represented the unity and shared foundation of the Lyra Clans, demonstrating their strength when linked together.
Historical Significance
More than a century ago, all the Lyra Clans could make their voices sound in unison through The Song of One. This unity was their strength - they were linked, united, sharing the same foundation and identity despite being nine different Clans with distinct customs and peculiarities.
Together, through The Song of One, the nine Clans saved Asgartha from ruin. This act cemented the song’s place in Lyra history as a symbol of their collective power and unity.
Current Status: Forgotten
The Song of One has been forgotten, its words lost to time. This loss represents a broader decline in Lyra unity and collective memory. Fen laments that no one seems to remember what the song meant - that they were linked, united, that they shared the same foundation and identity.
Fen’s Quest
Fen, granddaughter of Cayrat Steinn, dreams of finding The Song of One. She believes that if she could get her hands on it, she could use it to remind everyone of what they seemed to have unlearned about Lyra unity.
Her hope is that recovering The Song of One might heal the rift caused by the Kasirga Clan’s banishment and restore unity among the nine Lyra Clans. However, this hope seemed in vain as she had no idea where to look.
Connection to Mnemosyne
Nevenka suggested that if Fen sought forgotten knowledge about The Song of One, perhaps the best way was to find Mnemosyne, the goddess of memory and mother of the Muses. Since Mnemosyne technically remembers everything, she would surely know the words of The Song of One.
This suggestion planted a seed in Fen’s mind about joining the Rediscovery Endeavor to search for Mnemosyne and, through her, recover The Song of One.
Symbolism
The Song of One represents:
- Unity among diversity (nine distinct Clans singing as one)
- The strength of collective action
- Shared Lyra identity and foundation
- The power of art and music to save civilization
- The connection between all Lyra, regardless of their Saraband
Loss and Fragmentation
The forgetting of The Song of One parallels the fragmentation of Lyra unity. When the Kasirga Clan was banished for electing an Eidolon as Shepherd, it represented a breaking of the unity that The Song of One once embodied.
The fact that no one could intervene or remember the song’s message of unity during the banishment crisis demonstrates how completely its meaning has been lost to the Lyra Clans.
