Cayrat Steinn

Overview

Cayrat Steinn was the Shepherd of the Kasirga Clan and grandfather of Fen. He sought to find Mnemosyne, believing only she could hold the memory of the world and reveal what humanity had forgotten. He died of illness and his body was entrusted to The Tumult, after which he became an Eidolon.

Background

Cayrat served as Shepherd of the Kasirga Clan, with his family’s quarters located at the prow of The Ouroboros. His hair had turned gray and his skin had become parchment-like over the years. Esmeralda, an Eidolon, lived among the Clan and shared Cayrat’s life, remaining perpetually manifested despite him being mortal.

Death

Cayrat fell ill and became bedridden. When he died, Esmeralda was at his bedside. Many Clan members gathered at the doorstep, including Khaldun, Jakob, Chalinda, Catalina, Ajirai, Boona, Cao, Bastien, and Fen’s parents. The Matriarch and venerables came to offer condolences.

Transmutation

The Kasirga Clan sailed toward a Tumult singularity to entrust Cayrat’s body to The Tumult. They laid his body at the edge of the singularity, where it fractured, dissipated, and was carried away by the erratic effluvia.

Succession Crisis

Before his death, Cayrat named Esmeralda to take his place as Shepherd. The elders agreed, but the Matriarch of the Kasirga Clan opposed this decision. The Matriarchs of all Clans conferred and condemned making an Eidolon the Shepherd, as tradition reserved this role for mortals. They proclaimed an ultimatum: if the Kasirga Clan persisted, it would be banished from the Lyra alliance. The Clan was subsequently banished.

Esmeralda understood that continuing Cayrat’s work meant finding Mnemosyne to rediscover the memory of the world. Through finding Mnemosyne, Cayrat’s memory might persist, allowing him to remain as an Eidolon rather than fading into nothingness.
