The Castigar

Overview

The Castigar was an Alteration Faction affiliated with political power and loyal only to Ayxas. It was founded in 74 AC as part of Ayxas’s consolidation of power during The Torment.

Founding (74 AC)

In 74 AC, Ayxas secluded himself for several months in his Elysian quarters, where he devised a plan to restructure Asgartha’s power structures. He first founded The Castigar as an instrument of his authoritarian rule.

Purpose and Function

The Castigar served to:

  • Control Alteration practices within Asgartha
  • Reclaim functions from independent Factions, particularly the Yzmir
  • Enforce loyalty to Ayxas’s regime

In 79 AC, the Yzmir were instructed to submit to The Castigar and hand over all their esoteric research.

Reign of Terror

Alterers who refused to join The Castigar were hunted, imprisoned, or eliminated. The organization became a tool of oppression during Ayxas’s dictatorship.

Defense of the Regime (86 AC)

In 86 AC, when insurgents stormed the Elysium with the help of certain royal guards, the conscripted forces of The Castigar opposed the rioters but were eventually overthrown by the coalition of rebel forces.

Dismantling

The Castigar was ultimately dismantled after Ayxas’s overthrow in 86 AC, as part of the restoration of civil liberties and administrative institutions in Asgartha.
