The Magan

Overview

The Magan was a military academy dedicated to the arts of war, created by Ayxas in 74 AC as part of his consolidation of power during The Torment. It served as the military arm of his authoritarian regime.

Founding (74 AC)

In 74 AC, Ayxas secluded himself for several months in his Elysian quarters, where he devised a plan to restructure Asgartha’s power structures. Alongside The Castigar, he created The Magan, a military academy loyal only to him.

Purpose and Function

The Magan served to:

  • Train military forces loyal to Ayxas
  • Reclaim military functions from the Bravos and other independent groups
  • Enforce Ayxas’s military control over Asgartha

Gradually, Ayxas reclaimed social, military, and economic functions from the Factions and reassigned them to offices he had personally established, including The Magan.

Consolidation of Power (74-79 AC)

For five years, Ayxas passed laws and decrees, patiently restructuring the state apparatus. To many bureaucrats, his reforms made sense: the Bravos couldn’t hold all the nation’s military forces.

74 AC - Suppression of Warrior Brotherhoods

The Magan enforced Ayxas’s decree outlawing independent warrior brotherhoods. In 74 AC, envoys arrived at Ugetsu-Fenshen school bearing royal decree outlawing monastery’s existence. When Walela, the Grandmaster, refused Kuningas’s “request,” attack came following dawn. Entire Magan contingent descended upon monastery. Flames consumed dwellings as monks fought fiercely. Resistance slowly crumbled. Suddran fell speared from all sides. Nadra was killed by enemy archers. Gericht vaan-Bracht was pierced by arrows and left for dead. Monastery became smoldering ruins.

Military Control (79 AC)

In 79 AC, when Ayxas presented a motion of no confidence against the Factions, all independent military groups protecting the borders of Caer Eidos were required to disarm and submit to The Magan.

Defense of the Regime (86 AC)

In 86 AC, when insurgents stormed the Elysium with the help of certain royal guards, the conscripted forces of The Magan opposed the rioters but were eventually overthrown by the coalition of rebel forces.

Dismantling

The Magan was ultimately dismantled after Ayxas’s overthrow in 86 AC, as part of the restoration of civil liberties and administrative institutions in Asgartha.
