Blotch

Overview

Blotch, whose full name is Kutrabalamashablotchara (meaning “sun lance fragmented through the sublime iridescence of celestial waves”), is a paint dragon Chimera and the Alter Ego companion of Nevenka. He serves as her sensei and traveling companion.

Appearance

Blotch appears as a colorful mass swirling in the clouds - like a serpent made of rainbow colors. He is described as a dragon of hues and shades, as if clouds had turned into paint, and that paint had become a dragon creature. His form is ethereal and composed of oily, colorful textures.

First Encounter with Nevenka

While Nevenka wandered beneath the mighty chimneys of Mist, she saw Blotch swirling around the smokestacks. To get closer to him, she climbed dizzying ladders and stepped over protective railings.

When a maintenance platform gave way beneath her feet and she plummeted into the void, Blotch rushed to save her. Using his oily texture, he managed to slow her fall and place her on a terrace below, though she ended up covered from head to toe in colorful gouache.

The Testing Period

After saving Nevenka, Blotch attempted to lose her, but she pursued him relentlessly. She followed him through swamps, found his trail in rocky plains, stole a boat to follow him above a lagoon. When she was attacked by a thirsty lion or got stuck in mud as the tide rose, Blotch saved her each time, increasing her sense of debt to him.

After 64 days, Blotch stopped on a rocky prominence and revealed his true name: Kutrabalamashablotchara. However, Nevenka only registered “Blotch,” and that became his official name, much to his chagrin.

Blotch had been testing Nevenka for months to get a sense of her patience and perseverance. She passed brilliantly, so he agreed to become her sensei.

Role as Sensei

During the following months, Blotch trained Nevenka in Alteration. She meditated under waterfalls, learned to stand still on a reed, until she could split a torrent with a simple hand gesture under his guidance.

Personality

Blotch is described as having a joking nature. He likes to quip that he “tolerated her presence like a dog forgets about a tick” when describing his relationship with Nevenka. Despite this teasing, he grew genuinely attached to her over time.

He can be grumpy and serious when situations demand it, showing a no-nonsense side when Nevenka needs to focus on her duties.

Relationship with Nevenka

Over time, Blotch got used to Nev tailing him, and they started traveling together. Despite quarrels and gratuitous jabs, they became inseparable companions. Blotch made Nev his sidekick, though he maintains his sardonic sense of humor about their partnership.

Their relationship is characterized by:

• Mutual respect despite constant banter
• Deep loyalty to one another
• Blotch’s protective instincts toward Nevenka
• Nevenka’s persistent determination that won him over

Role as Alter Ego

Blotch serves as Nevenka’s Alter Ego in the Rediscovery Endeavor, accompanying her as a Lyra Exalt. He transports her when needed and provides guidance, though he isn’t always patient with her antics.
