Exalts
Overview
Exalts are bonded pairs consisting of an Alterer and a Chimera who have undergone The Musubi ceremony. Through this indissoluble union, the Alterer and their Alter Ego share their minds, thoughts, and emotions, and can sense each other’s presence even at great distance. This connection grants them abilities that make them particularly apt at venturing into The Tumult.
Bonding Mechanics
The Musubi permanently links two beings’ essences. The bond is immutable — once formed, the two individuals can communicate, know where the other is, see through each other’s eyes, and share all their senses. When a Chimera bonds with an Alterer, its appearance stabilizes, as the human retains a memory of the form it is supposed to assume. Only the Muna can celebrate the Musubi ceremony, which is held year-round at the Bark Refuge and throughout the Peninsula during the Ryūkkōsai spring festival.
Role in the Rediscovery Endeavor
Thanks to the Exalts, humanity can now aspire to explore the expanses affected by the Tumult. Exalts are sent as scouts and vanguards of the exploration forces during the Rediscovery Endeavor. By capitalizing on their abilities, humanity hopes to stabilize the regions still subjected to the Tumult.
