Loki

Overview

Loki is an Eidolon bearing the titles of Trickster God and Oneiros. He occupies his own domain within The Empyrean and occasionally crosses into the realms of other Oneiroi. Nevenka characterizes Loki as sharing her belief that the underlying nature of the world is disorder, and that any appearance of order is ultimately superficial — a conviction that informs their joint tendency toward provocation and disruption.

Appearance

Loki commonly manifests as a martengale, a creature combining features of a marten, a rabbit, and a jay. The form is deliberately unassuming — small, frail-looking, and sickly in appearance — but deceptive. In this shape, he possesses golden eyes, a long bushy tail capable of carrying messages, and elongated canine teeth suited for untying knots. His demeanor in martengale form is characteristically playful: grooming his ears with his paws, staring silently at others while waiting for a reaction, or performing acrobatic rolls along railings with apparent disregard for the drop below.

Relationship with Nevenka

Nevenka considers Loki her closest companion aside from her Alter Ego Blotch. She sought him out along with Pan and Tanuki during her youth within the Ossonoya Clan, and Loki contributed to her reputation by feeding her prank ideas. Together with the other Eidolons in her circle, they provided Nevenka with an unconventional education rooted in mischief and millennia of accumulated troublemaking experience.

The dynamic between Loki and Nevenka is one of mutual antagonistic affection — they routinely play increasingly elaborate tricks on each other without resentment. Their pranks have included Loki trapping Nevenka inside a barrel of spoiled fish, and her retaliating by binding him to a rock and applying snake venom to his eyes. Nevenka refers to him by the nickname “Kiki.”

Loki entered the domain of Oz uninvited and delivered a warning to Dorothy Gale on her balcony in the Emerald City, carrying a message concealed in his tail that, beneath layers of digressions and deliberate nonsense, contained intelligence about an unspecified threat operating covertly.
