Overview

Alfie Phillips (service number 2187) was a recruit and communications officer of The Aegis, assigned to Section 57 of the Expeditionary Corps. He is the sole chronicler of the unit’s massacre by The Hunger in 393 AC.

Military Service

Phillips served in The Aegis and was assigned to Section 57 for subterranean deployment in the City of Scholars. His duties included communications and maintaining contact through The Gestalt. Prior to deployment, he had trained for fieldwork and served at the Storvhit garrison.

Timeline

393 AC - Section 57 Expedition

Phillips descended with Section 57 into the City of Scholars on a mission to reach the Scholars’ Vault and reestablish contact with the Mesektet. The unit crossed the Undergrowth, passed through a dig site at an ancient university, and entered the underground labyrinth. The Eidolon Theseus guided them through the maze to their campsite among floating carved stones.

During the first night, spectral clawed hands attacked from corridor walls. The Gestalt malfunctioned. Section 57 suffered casualties and survivors experienced progressive memory deterioration.

393 AC - The Hunger Attack

In triangular passageways en route to the Scholars’ Tomb, The Hunger dropped a black veil over the unit. Phillips escaped through a triangular exit after spotting a thin beam of light at ground level while the corporal collapsed beside a lantern. He witnessed the creature kill the sergeant and officer—swallowing them whole, expelling their lifeless bodies, and consuming their Sap supply.

393 AC - Final Days

Phillips evaded The Hunger by moving carefully between hiding spots and reached a vast cavern containing the Scholars’ Vault. He took refuge on a ledge overlooking the Vault’s entrance—the designated rendezvous point for the Mesektet—and documented the events in a journal while scanning the ceiling openings for rescue. The creature continued tracking him in the distance. Phillips recorded his hope for rescue before setting down his pencil to wait.

Death and Legacy

Phillips’ journal was found near the Scholars’ Vault alongside his body. No survivors from Section 57 were recovered. His account serves as the primary documentation of The Hunger’s existence and behavior.
