Black Leviathan
Overview
The Black Leviathan was an abomination that emerged in the Kiragata Wetlands during The Three Factions War. It was a creature born of bitterness and resentment, fed by the war’s negative emotions.
Discovery
The Muna had been alerted to the emergence of an abomination, a singularity within the Mana network they called the Skein. Those who had come to investigate found a vile, enormous cocoon. Inside, a Leviathan of pure malice and hatred was growing. The Muna, with the help of Kaibara, had tried to contain its growth, but they couldn’t make it disappear.
Nature and Sustenance
War’s atrocities—death, terror, vengeance, cruelty—all this poison, all this venom, was the sustenance that fed the monster’s growth. If The Three Factions War continued, the Black Leviathan would rise fully and bring ruin and devastation to the entire Peninsula.
The Threat
Chiara Caceres revealed to the warring Faction leaders that if they continued to tear each other apart, the Black Leviathan would rise. She begged them to end the conflict, to fight against the abomination instead of feeding it.
Defeat
Champions from all four Factions journeyed to the Black Leviathan’s gestation site, plunging into marshes that had become putrid under its influence. They found the Leviathan, still in its nymph state, having just emerged from its chrysalis.
Joining forces with the surviving Muna, the champions battled the creature, and in a last-ditch effort, managed to defeat it, saving Asgartha in the process.
Legacy
Unfortunately, despite this victory, all the accumulated darkness had tainted the place with a malevolent aura. The site of the battle became The Fagn, a permanently cursed zone that remains an island of darkness.
