Leviathans

Overview

Leviathans are titanic creatures large enough to cover vast cities. Their footsteps make the ground tremble and the mountains shake; their silhouettes obscure the sun when they spread their wings or soar above the clouds. Like Chimerae, Leviathans feed on Mana.

Kaibara - The Protector

The Oasis of Asgartha is the territory of Kaibara, the Whale Leviathan. Kaibara lives within the mountainous expanses of the Kirighai peninsula above the Katkera. Its nest is a frozen lake, the largest on the Peninsula, where it hibernates part of the year. After breaking through its icy shelter, it rises into the skies and brushes against the clouds.

Kaibara lives in harmony with the other living beings of Asgartha. The Bravos assist their tutelary Leviathan in defending the Peninsula against challengers.

Defeated Leviathans

The following Leviathans were defeated by the alliance between Asgarthans and Kaibara:

Hostile Leviathans

Other Leviathans continue to challenge the aging Kaibara or threaten the Peninsula:

  • Kraken: The Squid Leviathan that conquered Caer Oorun, forcing Asgarthans to erect The Rampart. Destroyed by Kojo Oduro in 392 AC.
  • Cingula: The flying centipede Leviathan that periodically attacks the Peninsula.
  • Terat: The nightmarish vulture Leviathan.
  • Garuda: The Buzzard Leviathan that regularly disrupts the Peninsula in search of food.
  • Kacchena: The Moving Island, a Turtle Leviathan in the Cierna that is an ecosystem unto itself.
  • Black Leviathan: An abomination born of war’s negative emotions during The Three Factions War, defeated by champions from all Factions.

Cloud Realm Leviathans

The Cloud Realm harbors its own Leviathan population, encountered during the Rediscovery Endeavor:

  • Halua: The Manta Ray Leviathan, classified as the most catastrophic threat to the Expeditionary Corps fleet. Unlike territorial Leviathans, Halua actively hunts the fleet across multiple quadrants.
  • Lucan: The Beetle Leviathan of the Pelagonian Quadrant. Insectoid, approximately 800m in length, drawn to Aerolith and attacks ore convoys. High risk.
  • Koi: The Carp Leviathan of the Thessalian Quadrant. Pisciform, approximately 1,400m in length, gentle but playfully clumsy with ships. Moderate risk.
  • Zaratan: The Sky Turtle Leviathan of the Rhodopean Quadrant. Reptilian, approximately 1,500m diameter, docile and curious—contrasts with Kacchena’s territorial behavior. Low risk.
  • Sagitta: The Secretary Bird Leviathan of the Thermaic Quadrant. Avian, wingspan approaching 2km, extremely territorial over water sources. High risk.
  • Alelo: The Demon Leviathan of the Macedonian Quadrant. Pisciform eel-like creature straddling The Aether and reality like Mana Moths, reacts to any Alteration. High risk.

Symbiotic Leviathans

Kaibara tolerates certain Leviathans on its territory. Two Lyra Clans live in symbiosis with Leviathans, having negotiated with Kaibara to allow them to roam the Peninsula:
