Tesh Kanat
Overview
Tesh Kanat is a Terraferma district of Arkaster, built along an enormous cliffside on Kuna island, facing the Kuth Kanat district across Sforafjord.
Environment
Like its opposite slope, Tesh Kanat is shrouded in perpetual twilight due to the towering cliffs. To compensate, numerous Kelon-powered street lamps have been installed throughout the district.
Architecture
Unlike Kuth Kanat which is more bourgeois in character, Tesh Kanat is primarily home to old aristocratic families. The district is riddled with a multitude of underground tunnels and caverns, some of which plunge hundreds of meters down to the water level.
Heights and Terraces
The heights of Kuna island, extending from the Tesh district, have been covered with large terraced properties. Over the years, these have become the most coveted residences for the wealthy population of the Peninsula. The pieds-à-terre of the regional governors can also be found here, though they rarely visit the capital.
Old Nobility
Tesh Kanat is where the nine major Houses of the Old Nobility are established, maintaining their estates in this prestigious district.
Resident Houses
The nine patrician dynasties of the Old Nobility maintain their estates in Tesh Kanat. Houses explicitly mentioned include House ruun-Heshkari, House ruun-Caellach, House ruun-Tighe, and House ruun-Aysun.
Political Association
The ruun-Heshkari, ruun-Caellach, and ruun-Tighe Houses have always been closely associated with power, regardless of the ruling regime or political system of the time.
The Fair Game
There is little true animosity between the noble Houses of Tesh Kanat and Kuth Kanat. Both the Old and New Nobility have affectionately nicknamed their diplomatic conflict the “Fair Game.”
