Kuna
Overview
Kuna is one of the major islands of Arkaster, a massive rock that rises high above the lagoon level. It is steeped in history, as its presence convinced the Tumult Nomads to settle here, relatively sheltered from the overwhelming Tumult winds.
Political Center
The western end of Kuna, overlooking Felsenwel, houses many of the Republic’s centers of power. Like a colossal Mont-Saint-Michel, the palace of the Basileus dominates the bay, visible from almost everywhere in the city.
Key Structures
- Kuningasplatz: The vast political plaza
- The Asterion: Palace with sharp spires, perched on a protrusion of the island
This part of Kuna, being the administrative and political center of the Peninsula, is constantly under the joint protection of The Aegis and The Damocles.
Districts
The Tesh Kanat district is built along the enormous cliffside of Kuna, home to the Old Nobility. The heights of the island, extending from the Tesh district, have been covered with large terraced properties—the most coveted residences for the wealthy population of the Peninsula.
The district of Renkairi is expanding into the heights of Kuna as population density increases.
Underground Features
Kuna is riddled with a multitude of underground tunnels and caverns, some of which plunge hundreds of meters down to the water level.
Geography and Features
The island is characterized by:
- Vineyards (frost-covered during Season of Mists)
- Cypresses rising like lances, silhouetted against the misty lagoon
- Views across fjord to The Foundry’s wind turbines
ruun-Aysun Villa
The ruun-Aysun family maintains a villa retreat on Kuna featuring a deserted courtyard with white stone statues, manicured gardens, and a terrace overlooking the sea. The villa is maintained by Asor (gardener) and his wife Dorota.
392 AC - Conversation Between Siblings
Shortly before the departure of the Rediscovery Endeavor, Sigismar Synd retreated to the family villa during the Season of Mists. His sister Anuncia ruun-Aysun found him there and revealed her engagement to Amaro Arundhani, asking Sigismar to remember “those who stay behind.”
