Kelon

Overview

Kelon is material energy source that emerged with The Confluence, used to power machinery throughout Asgartha. There are different types of Kelon. One elusive variant is called Sun Kelon, rumored to be Primordia of Fire.

Types and Variants

Standard Kelon

Material used in kelonic batteries and motors to power Axiom technology including:

  • Kelonic batteries (used in Sierra’s workshop equipment)
  • Kelonic motors (used in expedition vehicles and boats)
  • Various machinery and devices

Standard Kelon is confirmed to exist and is extensively exploited by Axiom. Appears as crystal with dull appearance and slightly golden reflections. Can become inert and drained of energy, leaving only impotent (though pretty) fragments.

Kelonic Cylinder Conversion

In 393 AC, Axiom energy specialists at the City of Scholars successfully converted Kelonic cylinders to store Sap, the golden substance extracted from ancient reservoirs. This conversion produced more or less stable energy yield, though process efficiency still required improvement. The adaptation significantly eased strain on Kelon reserves, which were depleted after crossing Storvhit.

Sun Kelon

Elusive legendary variant rumored to be Primordia of Fire. Extremely rare and difficult to obtain. Golden color “like concentrated sunlight” according to Tumult Nomads testimony recorded in Ordis archives.

Legends surrounding Sun Kelon include:

  • Tumult Nomads reported seeing “Fire Gems” with golden coloring during their wanderings
  • Workers in Suspira mines claimed to have seen strange unstable Kelon whose power “collapsed an entire quarry” (officially dismissed as covering human error)
  • Some theorize Fire Gems were actually Kelon crystals, though testimony described distinctive golden sunlight color

Master-Archivist Juraj of The Sanctum argued “every legend contains grain of truth” when presenting evidence to Basem Falani in 367 AC to support Rediscovery Endeavor. He suggested if Sun Kelon exists, it will be found within The Tumult, requiring exploration of Terra Incognita to uncover and control it.

Geological Distribution

Underground reserves of Kelon and other rare minerals exist in The Tumult-affected regions beyond Asgartha. Prospector Guild conducts surveys to identify mineral-rich territories for extraction.

During 393 AC expedition, Axiom sought to claim territories identified as rich in Kelon and rare minerals, competing against Yzmir for territorial control. These reserves located hundreds of miles beyond Asgartha in dangerous Tumult zones requiring Tumult Jammer protection.

Connection to Tumult Singularities

In 367 AC, Juraj presented Basem Falani with dull crystal with slightly golden reflections found “in wake of Tumult Singularity.” This inert, energy-drained Kelon fragment came from The Glow that manifested few years prior.

Ordis suspected these crystals are what give Singularities their power. Once Singularity phenomenon dissipated, stones lost their power, leaving impotent (though pretty) fragments. This discovery awaited further analysis from Yzmir Initiates.

Strategic Importance

Kelon reserves represent valuable strategic resources driving territorial competition between Factions. Control of Kelon-rich regions provides:

  • Energy independence
  • Technological advantage
  • Economic value
  • Industrial capacity

This importance motivated dangerous Expeditionary Corps missions into Tumult regions where Sierra’s vehicle was struck by tsunami from Storvhit.

Resource Depletion Concerns

By 367 AC, Suspira mines approaching exhaustion. Juraj warned Basem Falani that “precious Kelon is going to dry up” - fact, not nonsense. This impending shortage created urgency for Axiom to support Rediscovery Endeavor and find new Kelon sources in Terra Incognita.

If Axiom failed to invest in preparing for future, entire Faction risked being left behind when Suspira reserves depleted. This concern helped tip scales in favor of Rediscovery Endeavor during Guild Assembly vote.
