The Black Wave
Overview
The Black Wave is a gloomy clearing within The Kadigir characterized by a plain of black grass that is constantly bathed in twilight darkness. It represents one of two persistent Tumult singularities housed within the Yzmir Bastion.
Physical Description
The Black Wave features:
- A plain covered in black grass
- Perpetual twilight darkness
- An eerie, gloomy atmosphere
- An unnatural clearing within the gardens
Unlike the vibrant hanging gardens that surround it, the Black Wave exists in a state of perpetual dusk, creating a stark contrast with the rest of The Kadigir.
The Threat
Monstrosities sometimes burst forth from the Black Wave unexpectedly. These creatures must be defeated before they can threaten the population of Arkaster. The unpredictable nature of these emergences makes constant vigilance necessary.
Guardian
The Black Wave is continually watched over by Baba Yaga, who serves as its guardian. This arrangement ensures that when monstrosities emerge, they can be dealt with swiftly before escaping the confines of The Kadigir.
Reason for Kadigir’s Location
The presence of the Black Wave was one of the reasons Aysun chose this location for founding The Kadigir. This Tumult singularity needed to be carefully monitored and contained for the safety of the population of the First City.
Protective Secrecy
The Yzmir do not boast of their role in protecting Asgartha from the dangers posed by the Black Wave and other singularities. They keep it secret to prevent the people of Asgartha from succumbing to panic about the monstrosities lurking at the edge of existence.
Yzmir Mission
Throughout history, the Yzmir have positioned themselves as defenders of humanity against the dark and nameless threats lurking within The Tumult. The Black Wave represents one such persistent threat that requires their constant attention and intervention.
Even within their own Bastion, the Initiates must remain vigilant, ready to combat whatever emerges from this perpetually darkened plain of black grass.
Symbolic Nature
The name “Black Wave” evokes the dark grass that covers the clearing and perhaps the waves or surges of Tumult energy that periodically manifest monstrosities from this location. It stands as a reminder that even in the heart of their sanctuary, the Yzmir are never far from the dangers they study.
