Sunniva spent entire childhood in tiny village near Kandu Range, which she described as “most boring place imaginable.” Limited opportunities and isolation of rural mountain life motivated her to seek wider horizons.
Joining Rediscovery Endeavor
When asked about her reasons for joining Rediscovery Endeavor, Sunniva stated simply: “I think I just wanted to see the world.” She acknowledged this motivation lacked nobility compared to other recruits’ reasons, describing it as potentially reckless rather than noble cause according to her mother’s likely perspective.
She found deep satisfaction in exploration experience: “Sleeping under the stars, waking up every morning to landscapes no one’s ever seen before—that’s what keeps me going.” Despite calling herself less noble than others, she expressed fascination with watching Exalts shape world through Alteration: “Watching the Exalts shape the world around them is something that will never stop fascinating me.”

Sunniva participated in climbing training at the Chasm alongside Kojo. The two discussed the upcoming challenge. Sunniva had previously made it almost three-quarters of the way through the Chasm’s mechanisms during a past attempt, while Kojo had only managed one-third. The canyon required navigating through nasty mechanisms where every wrong step could result in a fall, though the Yzmir Sigils provided safety measures.
Expeditionary Corps Service
393 AC - Storvhit Expedition
Sunniva served as scout for Atsadi during Storvhit expeditions. Her role included reconnaissance, setting up camp, cooking, and other support tasks that allowed Exalts to conserve Mana for critical Alteration use. She explained philosophy: “Our main role is to help the Exalts retain their energy so they can use their Mana only when absolutely necessary.”
Despite describing tasks as cooking and camp setup, Sunniva emphasized importance: “Just surviving the cold drains a huge amount of their energy.” She rejected characterization of work as menial, finding fulfillment in daily discoveries and watching Exalts reshape environment.
Betting Culture
Sunniva participated in betting competitions with other expedition scouts, wagering on which Exalts would reach objectives first. She admitted being “down two Florets” but planned comeback on next expedition. Belisenki Attack - February 393 AC
During night at shared expedition camp, Belisenki triggered Yzmir alert wards set around perimeter. Sound of countless tiny bells signaled breach. Soldiers emerged from tents hastily dressing and gearing up. Muna mages clutching staves took positions at perimeter, some levitating to form circle meters above ground probing shadows.
Sunniva helped fasten brigandine armor in response. When Belisenki swarm attacked, temperature dropped several degrees instantly. Wind rose with their arrival sending snow swirling through air, making it difficult to hold weapons steady.
During attack, Sunniva fought back-to-back with Yzmir Initiate, drifting few meters from main group. Their isolation worried observers. When Sunniva’s companion was swept away into tempest, Sunniva continued fighting.
When another scout was struck and dazed with Belisenki approaching for kill, Sunniva intervened. She slammed into creature with large targe shield, sending it tumbling into snow. She stood over fallen scout extending hand to help them up.
Before rescue could complete, Afanas Korovinovich unleashed massive Alteration display. Shockwave hurled Sunniva and scout into air. Sunniva lost from sight in chaos as torrents of snow blasted in all directions. Yzmir mages raised magical barriers to shield themselves from carnage.
Sunniva sustained leg injury from Afanas Korovinovich’s shockwave blast, requiring extended hospital recovery period during which Sunisa made multiple visits.
393 AC - Hospital Recovery and Friendship with Sunisa
While recovering from leg injury in yurt hospital, Sunniva received visit from Sunisa, Ordis aide-de-camp who smuggled blueberry candy under nurses’ noses. Sunniva joked about escaping in wheelchair, causing Sunisa visible emotional range from surprise to embarrassment to considering feasibility of escape plan. She admitted honestly feeling tired of sitting around doing nothing, while Sunisa promised they would “raise hell” once Sunniva back on feet. Sunisa made multiple visits despite no obligation, providing welcome distraction Sunniva was grateful for. When Sunisa mentioned Exalts needing backup, Sunniva recognized underlying message sounded like “not sure we’re coming back,” causing her jaw to tighten as no cast had ever felt so suffocating. Sunniva appeared carefree on outside but embers still burned hot at heart of soul.
393 AC, June-September - Reunion with Kojo at The Mess
After completing convalescence, Sunniva reunited with Kojo Oduro at The Mess, meeting him in line for reservations. The two caught up over Sap borscht with fried eggs and fondue, with Sunniva describing her Storvhit journey while Kojo shared his recent difficulties. Sunniva admitted feeling jealous of Kojo’s Exalt status. She demonstrated her characteristic appetite, gulping down a fried egg whole from her second helping of borscht.
