Storhvit

Overview

Storhvit is a winter region in the Terra Incognita beyond Caer Oorun, named by the first scouts of the Rediscovery Endeavor exploration forces. The region is perpetually locked in harsh winter and contains six distinct biome environments centered around Cais Adarra mountain.

Geography and Environment

Storhvit is a snowy expanse perpetually locked in harsh winter. Experts suspect the very idea of winter is deeply entrenched in this region. The mutagenic effects of The Tumult are mitigated by the persistence of a strong idea near the explored zone: the idea of cold, ice, and winter. This idea emanates from Cais Adarra, a mountain peak that glows with vivid blue light day and night.

The region contains six distinct biome environments: Tundra, Taiga, Frozen Lake, Canyon, Caverns, and Spur.

Climate and Weather

The weather is highly unpredictable, influenced by The Tumult sweeping across the land and generating capricious winds. Conditions that seem favorable in the morning can deteriorate within hours. Weather conditions include snow, frost, biting cold, and limited visibility.

Exploration Challenges

Progress through Storhvit is grueling, slow, and painstaking. Unlike Caer Oorun which benefited from mild Tumult currents, areas beyond the rehabilitated Province present harsher conditions. Fatigue is evident among the Exalts. The constant obstacles take a toll on morale.

The harsh weather conditions accompanying the region’s stabilizing influence include snow, frost, biting cold, and limited visibility. The goal is to reach Cais Adarra as quickly as possible, as the peak will provide a secure haven against Tumult singularities plaguing the lower regions, despite the cold there being even harsher.

Expeditionary Corps Operations

January 393 AC Deployment

The vanguard of the Expeditionary Corps was deployed to Storhvit in January 393 AC. During downtime, many troops listen to teachings of Ordis scholars or songs of Lyra skalds. They consult texts brought from the capital.

A recommendation was made to diversify the range of Eidolons troops can summon, alleviating the burden posed by the region’s endemic cold. Jack Frost, the Snow Queen, Skadi, and other lesser-used Eidolons are being explored or rediscovered and adapted to this environment where their abilities prove invaluable.

In coordination with Expeditionary Corps team leaders, a decision was made to deploy contingents of explorers using The Ouroboros to assist the Exalts when Tumult currents are sufficiently calm. The Exalts and select Alterers shield these troops from The Tumult, while the explorers provide relief from the cold and direct support during the journey. Axiom deployed probes to survey terrain ahead.

Phenomena

The Snow Wraith, also called Spirit of the Snows, is a disembodied voice phenomenon reported by early explorers of Storhvit.

Relationship to Other Regions

The Tundra biome contains coral-like formations similar to Makonis Heights, suggesting the same wave of concepts influenced both this location and the plateaus of the Enosha peninsula.
