Mesektet Conspiracy
Overview
The Mesektet Conspiracy refers to a sealed conspiracy connected to the destruction of Mesektet in approximately 340 AC. While the crash was officially attributed to an attack by Cingula, Bai Shan-shu’s deathbed confession to his daughter Zhen revealed that he had caused the ship’s fall and was responsible for all the deaths—including that of his wife Madelyn Moss, who died in an explosion on the scientific bridge.
The admiralty has sealed all records concerning both the Mesektet crash and activities at The Cebir, where Madelyn conducted Chimera research from 327-329 AC.
Known Participants
Confirmed Visitors
Through The Musubi with Zephyr, Zhen witnessed fragmentary memories identifying three high-ranking officials who regularly visited the Moss-Shan-shu home in Hadera to discuss secret projects behind closed doors:
- Temera Singh - Now Grand Admiral commanding the Rediscovery Endeavor
- de Graaf - Now General serving aboard The Ouroboros
- Basem Falani - Guildmaster of the Lapidaries’ Guild; remained accessible in Asgartha
Central Figures
- Madelyn Moss - Scientist specializing in Chimera research; conducted experiments on Zephyr involving Mana siphoning; ordered aboard Mesektet to test an invention; died in the crash
- Bai Shan-shu - Tagmata officer; used Zephyr’s abilities to save crew members during the crash, earning the Purple Star; confessed on his deathbed to causing the tragedy
Timeline
327-329 AC - The Cebir Period
Madelyn Moss and Bai Shan-shu served at The Cebir, an outpost functioning as both military fortress and experimental laboratory. Madelyn conducted research on Chimeras, including Zephyr. The base was abandoned in 329 AC.
329-340 AC - Hadera Period
The couple settled in Hadera, Caer Esvander, where Zhen was born in 330 AC. Madelyn continued experiments on Zephyr in her workshop, involving Mana siphoning in vats. High-ranking admiralty officials (Singh, de Graaf, Falani) visited regularly to discuss classified projects, creating tension between Madelyn and Shan-shu.
~340 AC - The Mesektet Crash
Madelyn received orders to board Mesektet to test her invention. Shan-shu’s Tagmata squadron escorted the mothership. During an attack attributed to Cingula, the ship went down. Madelyn died in an explosion on the scientific bridge. Shan-shu saved many crew members using Zephyr’s abilities.
Post-Crash - Cover-Up
Shan-shu received the Purple Star, one of the highest Asgarthan military distinctions, and rose to naval high command. The admiralty sealed all records concerning the crash. Shan-shu remained distant from his daughter, drinking heavily after the memorial service.
364 AC - Shan-shu Becomes Exalt
Basileus Avkan requested Shan-shu undergo The Musubi with Zephyr, making him one of the first Exalts. His health declined afterward.
~393 AC - Deathbed Confession
On his deathbed, Shan-shu confessed to Zhen that he had caused the Mesektet’s crash and was responsible for all the deaths. He stated his life had been lived in imposture and lies, and that he deserved none of the honors he received. When Zhen asked why, he mentioned Madelyn’s name but refused to elaborate.
Post-Confession - Investigation Begins
After Shan-shu’s death, Zephyr began dying from the broken Musubi bond. Zhen performed a second Musubi to save the Chimera. Through this bonding, Zephyr’s memories transferred to Zhen, revealing the experiments, her father’s episodes of despair, and the faces of the conspiracy’s visitors.
Zhen applied to become an Exalt and join the Rediscovery Endeavor, positioning herself to investigate. Singh now commands the Endeavor with de Graaf at her side, making both difficult to approach. Only Falani remained accessible in Asgartha.
