Basem Falani
Basem Falani is the Guildmaster of the Lapidaries’ Guild and a master gemsmith who joined the Rediscovery Endeavor. He operated a workshop in Arkaster and is an old friend of Rama Thongsuk. Falani is a member of a cabal connected to the Mesektet crash and is a target of Zhen’s investigation.
Background
Falani ran a gemsmith workshop at The Foundry in Arkaster. Following the 384 AC Enosha Strikes, he took on Isaree Thongsuk as an apprentice at the request of his friend Rama Thongsuk, teaching her lapidary work and encouraging her to use Alteration to enhance her jewelry.
Prior to the Rediscovery Endeavor, Falani was among the high-ranking officials who regularly visited the home of Madelyn Moss and Bai Shan-shu in Hadera to discuss secret projects. Through The Musubi with Zephyr, Zhen later witnessed fragmentary memories identifying Falani as one of the participants in a cabal — alongside Temera Singh and de Graaf — whose activities were connected to the Mesektet crash. The information surrounding the crash and the Cebir was subsequently sealed. Unlike Singh and de Graaf, who departed with the Rediscovery Endeavor, Falani initially remained in Asgartha and was the only cabal member still accessible to Zhen’s investigation.
Falani knew Zhen from childhood, having visited the Moss-Shan-shu estate regularly. He remembered her as a young girl of about ten, and recalled their studies and long conversations on the patio — a time before the founding of the Axiom.
Endorsement of the Rediscovery Endeavor
In 367 AC, during a contentious session of the Guild Assembly presided over by Boro, Falani was approached by Juraj, Master-Archivist of the Sanctum. Juraj presented him with a dull crystal with golden reflections — a fragment of Sun Kelon found in the wake of a Tumult Singularity. Although inert and drained of energy, the specimen’s quality was unmistakable. Juraj argued that the Suspira mines would soon be exhausted and that supporting the Rediscovery Endeavor would allow the Axiom to discover Sun Kelon within the Tumult, securing the faction’s future energy supply. With his thirteen percent influence, Falani’s endorsement could sway the Assembly’s vote in favor of the project. After deliberation, Falani accepted the crystal and began considering mobilizing his supporters.
Research at The Screed
By 393 AC, Falani has authority over one of the Tech Lab Units at The Screed, conducting research alongside other Axiom scientists including Treyst.
Timeline

393 AC, June-September - Aerolith Processing and Zhen’s Letter
Falani worked as a lapidary aboard an expedition vessel, polishing and faceting Aerolith crystals using specialized equipment capable of absorbing residual energy to prevent dangerous exothermic reactions, and received a letter from Zhen bearing Ordis and Tagmata seals.
