Thermaic Quadrant

Overview

The Thermaic Quadrant is one of six regions within the Cloud Realm, serving as the expedition’s main water resupply source. The quadrant consists of floating water basins ranging from small rainwater reservoirs to gigantic aquariums several kilometers across.

Geography

The Thermaic Quadrant contains levitating water bubbles of varying sizes and compositions. Some harbor fresh water while others are saline. The largest basins contain rich aquatic ecosystems including plankton, algae, and fish swimming within the suspended water masses.

Zero Gravity Environment

Individuals can enter these water bubbles from above, below, or the sides. Inside the bubbles, gravity does not exist, creating a unique diving experience where swimmers float freely within the suspended water.

Aerolith Cores

In bubbles that host aquatic life, coral formations consistently develop as crusts around an Aerolith core at the center. The Aerolith provides the antigravitational force that keeps the water suspended.

Leviathan Activity

Leviathans have been observed drinking from the water basins or diving into them to cool off, indicating the Thermaic Quadrant serves as a natural watering hole for these massive creatures.

Sagitta, an avian Leviathan with a wingspan approaching two kilometers, prowls the quadrant and is extremely territorial. It plays with the water bubbles, whose silvery-blue reflections recall its own plumage, gliding between them. Sagitta has attacked Expeditionary Corps convoys on numerous occasions, complicating water recovery operations, though it ceases attacks once vessels leave its territory.

Expeditionary Use

The Expeditionary Corps relies on the Thermaic Quadrant for water resupply during their journey. Personnel must carefully distinguish between fresh and salt water sources when collecting supplies.
