The Coalition

Overview

The Coalition was a political alliance formed in 242 AC by the Governors of Caer Kettria, Caer Esvander, and Caer Alcada. The alliance was created for cooperation between Asgarthan Provinces and represented an attempt by regional powers to limit the authority of the central government in Caer Eidos.

Formation and Expansion

242 AC - Founding

The three Governors of Caer Kettria, Caer Esvander, and Caer Alcada created the Coalition as an alliance for cooperation between their Provinces.

244 AC - Caer Arcolano Joins

Caer Arcolano joined the Coalition, expanding its membership to four Provinces.

248 AC - Rejection by Caer Eidos

The Governors proposed that Caer Eidos join the Coalition as a full member. However, Basileus Marcus Sune refused, provoking anger among the regional leaders. The Governors aimed to reduce Caer Eidos to a mere Province rather than the central seat of power. Sune, by contrast, harbored ambitions of handing power to the people and making Asgartha a true democracy.

The Severance War

252 AC - War Begins

The tension between the Coalition and the central authority erupted into open conflict. An assassination attempt on Marcus Sune marked the beginning of The Severance War, a civil war between the Provinces and Arkaster.

257 AC - Resolution

The civil war ended after five years of conflict, largely through the intervention of Wanjiru and the Yzmir, who uncovered The Isfet’s role in stoking the flames of war.

Legacy

The Coalition represented a significant challenge to central authority during a period of growing provincial power. Its conflict with Caer Eidos and subsequent dissolution during The Severance War shaped the political landscape of Asgartha for generations. The failed secession attempt demonstrated the dangers of internal division and contributed to the later establishment of more balanced relations between central and regional powers.
