384 AC Enosha Strikes

Overview

The 384 AC Enosha Strikes were a major labor conflict at the Enosha Mines in Hadera following an industrial disaster that killed approximately twenty miners. The strikes escalated from peaceful protest to violent confrontation before The Aegis intervened to restore order.

The Disaster

A faulty ventilation system allowed gas to accumulate in a mine shaft, which exploded and collapsed on approximately twenty miners. The firebreak system failed during rescue operations, causing severe burn injuries. After three days of excavation hampered by outdated infrastructure, rescuers discovered the trapped miners had died of asphyxiation hours before being reached.

Strike Origins

Miners demanded an inquiry into cost-cutting on safety systems. Management, led by the Quarrymen’s Guild shareholders, refused and blamed the disaster on human error. Workers declared a strike. Isaree Thongsuk, despite her wealthy background, joined the miners’ committee and stood on the picket line. Private security forces hired by management violently dispersed initial picket lines.

Meredith, the most vocal shareholder demanding the strikers’ expulsion to protect her airship fleet construction, was elected board chair during the crisis. She ordered Isaree to withdraw and threatened disinheritance; Isaree refused and left the family home. She moved into the miners’ guild hall, drafting pamphlets, painting banners, and organizing actions. Trading her fine clothes for overalls and a worker’s cap, she was eventually named the strike committee’s delegate due to her knowledge of the shareholders. Rama Thongsuk secretly provided aid to the strikers.

Escalation

Negotiations between Meredith and Isaree failed, and workers seized the mine by force. Isaree used her scientific knowledge to help control machinery and wrote flyers calling for civil disobedience.

Eidolons including Gavroche joined demonstrators, carrying messages between resistance points. When shareholders hired mercenary security forces, Isaree urged miners to defend themselves. Fighting erupted throughout the facility—at the gates, in workshops, and along shipping docks. Militias overwhelmed the resistance and burned the homes of protest leaders. Isaree was beaten while trying to block the shafts.

Aftermath

The Aegis eventually intervened to quell the riots. The toll included hundreds injured and the mine left wrecked and unusable for weeks. Isaree Thongsuk fled Hadera following the violence, eventually reaching Arkaster.

The strikes left a lasting impression on witnesses including Sunisa, whose childhood memories of Ordis troops defending miners rather than crushing them motivated her to join the faction.
