Sigismar Synd
Overview
Sigismar Synd (also known as Sig), born 361 AC, is an Ordis Exalt and Alterer who serves as a Paladin of The Aegis. He is bonded with his Alter Ego Wingspan, a griffin Chimera, through The Musubi ceremony. Sigismar descends from Ayxas, the third Kuningas of Asgartha, whose infamous legacy shaped his upbringing and military career.
Background
Sigismar comes from a wealthy noble family residing in an opulent palazzo in Arkaster. His lineage traces back to Ayxas, the third Kuningas of Asgartha, whose name is infamous for turning the kingdom into a tyrannical regime. His father is a politician who worked in the corridors of the Basileus’s palace, infiltrating diplomatic circles through intimidation and deception. His mother provided him with gifts alongside expectations of studying etiquette, music, eloquence, rhetoric, history, and sciences.
As a child, other parents prevented their children from playing with Sigismar due to his lineage, and his birthday parties went unattended. His father ordered him to endure the exclusion. When he escaped his tutors, Sigismar wandered the island’s vineyards and played with Eidolons he summoned. An instructor named Kadri (whom Sigismar called “old wolf”) taught him that children were not responsible for their parents’ actions and trained him in the basics of Alteration.
When Sigismar was seven, his sister Anuncia ruun-Aysun was born after a difficult labor. His father forbade him from seeing his mother during confinement. Seven years separated the siblings—Anuncia received their father’s leniency while Sigismar bore the burden of succession, and when he joined the Ordis, their father shifted all attention to Anuncia. Sigismar possesses a ring with a diamond band connected to his relationship with Hasret.
Sigismar left his clerkship and enlisted in the Ordis to join the Rediscovery Endeavor exploration forces. His father persuaded the military hierarchy to grant a dispensation for a political career instead, but as Sigismar was being escorted out of The Rampart, alarms sounded. He rushed to the fortifications where soldiers were grappling with Tumult creatures. A defeated pregnant Chimera resembling a griffin crashed near him and died; he extracted a surviving griffin from its belly. Admiral Temera Singh granted his request to join the exploration forces on the spot. Sigismar named the griffin Wingspan.
Sigismar raised Wingspan daily, and the Chimera grew in size and strength. Kadri served as his designated Alteration instructor, and he trained in weapons handling with Eidolons including Jeanne d’Arc, Bedivere, and Robin Hood. Through The Musubi ceremony, Sigismar and Wingspan became Alter Egos.
Ayxas had uttered a decree during his exile in The Tumult that humanity was not ready to face what lurked there. Sigismar searches old grimoires for clues about his ancestor’s actions, hoping that Caer Oorun may contain preserved tomes with a more accurate account of Ayxas’s history.
