Sigismar Synd

Overview

Sigismar Synd (also known as Sig) is an Ordis Exalt and Alterer who serves as a Paladin of The Aegis. He is bonded with his Alter Ego Wingspan, a griffin Chimera, through The Musubi ceremony. Sigismar descends from Ayxas, the third Kuningas of Asgartha, and carries the weight of his ancestor’s infamous legacy.

Family Background and Childhood Stigma

Sigismar comes from a wealthy noble family residing in an opulent palazzo in Arkaster. His lineage traces back to Ayxas, the third Kuningas of Asgartha, whose name is infamous throughout all history books for turning the kingdom into a tyrannical regime. His father is a relentless and draconian politician who worked late in the corridors of the Basileus’s palace, infiltrating diplomatic circles through intimidation and deception. His mother pampered him with gifts and indulged his every whim, though these came with the expectation of studying etiquette, music, eloquence, rhetoric, history, and sciences.

As a child, Sigismar became acutely aware of the stigma that weighed on him—adults prevented their children from playing with him, and his birthday parties were deserted. His father ordered him to stand tall, enduring the loneliness and exclusion. Whenever he managed to escape his tutors’ watchful eyes, Sigismar would wander across the island, hiding among the vineyards, escaping his isolation by imagining a thousand adventures and playing with the Eidolons he summoned, who never judged him.

One instructor named Kadri (whom Sigismar affectionately called “old wolf”) took him under his wing and taught him that children were not responsible for the sins of their parents. Kadri taught Sigismar the basics of Alteration, and with time he touched a certain inner peace. Sigismar wanted to break the wheel of fate once and for all.

When Sigismar was seven years old, his sister Anuncia ruun-Aysun was born after a difficult labor. His father forbade him from seeing his mother during the confinement, and Sigismar felt a selfish anger at not being able to join the celebrations. When finally allowed inside, he saw his mother extend her hand, radiant with happiness despite exhaustion, holding the tiny newborn. Seven years separated the siblings, creating a certain reservation between them. Anuncia benefited from their father’s leniency while Sigismar bore the burden of succession, and when he joined the Ordis, their father shifted all attention to Anuncia.

Sigismar possesses a ring with a diamond band, connected to his romantic relationship with Hasret.

Joining the Ordis and Meeting Wingspan

The Rediscovery Endeavor resonated with Sigismar as a chance to wipe the slate clean and make a name for himself. He decided to leave his clerkship and join the exploration forces, enlisting in the Ordis to pursue a military career. His father persuaded the military hierarchy to grant his son a dispensation for a political career instead, but as Sigismar was being escorted out of The Rampart, bells rang and alarms sounded. He rushed to the fortifications and saw soldiers grappling with Tumult creatures. A defeated Chimera resembling a griffin crashed near him, pregnant and dying. He extracted a scrawny but still living griffin from its belly, and the creature curled up in his arms. Admiral Temera Singh granted his request to join the exploration forces on the spot. Sigismar named the griffin Wingspan.

Training and Musubi Bond

Sigismar took care of Wingspan every day, and the Chimera grew in size and strength, becoming the darling of their regiment. Sigismar asked if Kadri could become his designated instructor for Alteration and was trained daily in weapons handling by Eidolons like Jeanne d’Arc, Bedivere, and Robin Hood. Through The Musubi ceremony, Sigismar and Wingspan became Alter Egos, their souls bound together.

Quest for Truth

Secretly, Sigismar dreams of shedding light on Ayxas’s actions. His ancestor had uttered a curse during his exile in The Tumult, decreeing that humanity was not ready to face what lurked there. In his spare time, Sigismar combs through old grimoires in search of clues, though nothing concrete has emerged. He hopes that when he walks on Caer Oorun, he will find preserved tomes recounting Ayxas’s story more accurately.

Role in the Rediscovery Endeavor

As a Paladin of The Aegis, Sigismar serves in the Expeditionary Corps. During the battle against Kraken, he flew on Wingspan serving as The Aegis’s banner bearer, conjuring a banner using Alteration.
