Ugetsu-Fenshen

Overview

Ugetsu-Fenshen was a secluded monastery and warrior brotherhood located on the edge of Vindmark, the eastern frontier of Caer Eidos. The school trained swordsmen and housed orphans from across the Protectorate until its destruction by The Magan in 74 AC during The Torment.

Location

The monastery was located on the edge of Vindmark, the eastern frontier of Caer Eidos.

Training and Daily Life

The monastery operated under regime of extreme rigor. Orphans and students performed labor including preparing disciples’ morning meals, cleaning stables and barns, and other tasks from dawn to dusk. After four years of such work, students could become disciples and begin formal training in strengthening body and mind, learning blade techniques, and dueling.

Outlawing and Destruction (74 AC)

In 74 AC, envoys of Ayxas arrived at the school bearing royal decree that outlawed the monastery’s existence as part of suppression of independent warrior brotherhoods during The Torment. Walela, the Grandmaster, thanked emissaries but politely refused the Kuningas’s “request.”

Attack came following dawn. Entire Magan contingent descended upon monastery. Flames consumed humble dwellings as rain began to fall. Monks fought fiercely, their blades dancing with deadly grace, repelling wave after wave of attackers. Resistance slowly crumbled beneath relentless zeal of assailants. Suddran fell, speared from all sides. Nadra was struck down by enemy archers. Gericht vaan-Bracht was pierced by arrows and left for dead. Monastery became smoldering ruins.

Eidolon Gunn came to collect essence of fallen warriors from charred remains.

Legacy

Gericht vaan-Bracht became known as last remnant of Ugetsu-Fenshen school, carrying monastery’s martial tradition into rebellion against Ayxas. He later manifested as Eidolon known as Five Blades Swordsman.
