Phoenix Egg

Overview

The Phoenix Egg is a sacred artifact of the Bravos Faction, containing the dormant form of the Asgarthan Phoenix. When Rune disappeared in 42 AC, the Phoenix consumed itself and reformed into this egg, which has refused to hatch for over 350 years. The egg is central to Rune’s Testament and the true purpose of the Rediscovery Endeavor.

Origins

When Rune disappeared into The Tumult at the twilight of his reign, the Phoenix consumed itself, leaving behind the egg. The Bravos have carefully watched over it since time immemorial, awaiting the emergence of the Phoenix once again.

Location at Haven

The egg was kept in a central brazier with everlasting flames at the Parliament of Ashes, the heart of Haven. Tiny Jinn maintained the flames, serving as eternal guardians. The Phoenix Chamber deep beneath Haven also housed the egg, where it was incubated in connection to the site of Rune’s coronation and the enactment of The Creed.

The Legend

A persistent legend within the Bravos Faction holds that the Firebird will only reappear when Rune’s true heir is found. This belief motivated many Bravos to volunteer for the Rediscovery Endeavor, hoping to find traces of the first sovereign and perhaps his tomb.

Theft from Haven (393 AC)

In 393 AC, the Phoenix Egg was stolen from Haven. Initial reports caused Haven to be sealed off—even from the Lyra—with only Bravos permitted to circulate freely within its walls. An armorer named Tessalit Girum, who had been appointed to modernize the Bravos’ training dummies, was taken in for questioning regarding her involvement in the theft.

The theft was reported in the Arkaster Echo newspaper, which Waru Toowoom read while stationed at Storvhit.

Transport Westward

The theft was revealed to be part of a larger plan connected to Rune’s Testament. Bravos loyal to the Testament secretly joined the Tisdhera Clan aboard The Wayfarer, carrying the Phoenix Egg westward. According to the Testament, the egg must be taken to the Phoenix’s nest in the west, where it can be rekindled and the Firebird reborn.

Sitina, a Phoenixian Guard Blade Dancer, revealed this truth to Waru Toowoom and Kojo Oduro after they discovered Rune’s scroll in the City of Scholars. The Testament declared: “The Firebird must be rekindled, reborn. Only then can the world rise from its ashes.”

Significance to Rune’s Testament

The Phoenix Egg represents the true objective of the Rediscovery Endeavor—not the fabricated Source of The Tumult, but the rebirth of the Phoenix. Rune foresaw that the Source would be revealed as a mirage, and left instructions for the egg to be transported westward to its nest. The Phoenixian Guard serve as keepers of this secret, bearing golden tracings on their skin that mark their role as Testament stewards.
