Oddball

Overview

Oddball is a Chimera that manifests as a drone of Sierra’s own design which came to life after being exposed to the currents of The Tumult. Oddball serves as Sierra’s Alter Ego and constant companion, bonded to her through The Musubi.

Origin

Oddball was originally a drone designed and crafted by Sierra during her work as an engineer within Axiom. Sierra sent the drone into The Tumult to collect data. The drone returned badly damaged by the wild currents and intrusive ideas.

When Irun, a Foundry Engineer, connected the damaged drone to a charging station, it let out a piercing screech and shook its banged-up body. The drone began to molt, shedding pieces of metal from its shell. The drone rose again and turned toward Sierra, its camera zooming in and out on her face. It approached when Sierra offered her hand and cavorted around her like a puppy greeting its owner. This was the moment the drone transformed from a mechanical creation into a sentient Chimera.

Bond with Sierra

The drone never leaves Sierra’s side. They connected through The Musubi to further grow their bond. Sierra is noted as being among the few fortunate enough to be in such close contact with Chimerae.

Sierra and Oddball can communicate over distance through their bond. During Tumult expeditions when separated, Sierra can sense Oddball’s condition and summon Eidolons to assist him remotely.

Tumult Vulnerability

Oddball’s frame is vulnerable to damage from intrusive ideas when operating in Tumult zones. His frame can sustain significant damage requiring armor restoration through welding.

Role in Expeditionary Corps

As Sierra’s Alter Ego and bonded companion, Oddball accompanies her in her service as vanguard in the Expeditionary Corps, supporting her work in engineering and Alteration.

Timeline

386 AC - Transformation into Chimera

Sierra sent her drone into The Tumult to collect data, and after returning damaged, it transformed into a Chimera when Irun connected it to a charging station at The Foundry.

392 AC - Tumult Lake Crossing

Oddball sustained frame damage from intrusive ideas while maneuvering through a twilit forest, and Sierra remotely summoned a Salvager Eidolon through their bond to restore his armor.

393 AC - Relic Examination at Storvhit

Oddball accompanied Sierra during mysterious machine examination at Cobalt Gorge, circling Rossum with series of agitated beeps while relic was positioned on raised platform.

393 AC - Avalanche Beacon Deployment

Oddball flew at full speed down into an avalanche at Storvhit, slaloming between falling rocks and ice shards to drop location beacons on buried Aegis soldiers while emitting distress signals on official channels.

393 AC - Playing with Marmo at The Screed

Oddball played with Marmo at Subhash Kadis’s workbenches near The Screed’s chasm, chasing each other through scrap piles while Sierra and Bash discussed research.
