Subhash Kadis

Overview

Subhash Kadis, known as Bash, is an Axiom Exalt from Suspira who worked for eight years in the island’s Kelon quarries before joining the Expeditionary Corps vanguard. He is bonded to Marmo, a Chimera appearing as a wounded dog, through The Musubi.

Early Life

Subhash was born as fourth child in family of six children on Suspira, the island at the eastern end of Asgartha. His mother worked in construction management and recommended him for mine work when old enough. His father worked as nurse who treated Marmo’s wounds and maintained plantations amidst black sand, often speaking about possibility of Suspira becoming paradise through proper terraforming. Suspira is a desolate land almost entirely covered in black sand and razor-sharp rocks, with harmful fumes of sulfur, methane, and ammonia. Subhash grew up in Utval, a mining colony battered by winds and dust. Family members appearing in Subhash’s 393 AC memory projections include Kavuri Kadis, Navin Kadis, and Sunder Kadis.

Finding Marmo

During a forbidden excursion among dark mounds of Suspira, Bash heard a lament and found a severely wounded puppy missing its two hind legs and lacerated with cuts. Bash brought the animal home, and his father treated its wounds. Bash rigged up a wheelchair for it so it could move around and taught it to follow the sound of his voice and whistles. Bash named the dog Marmo, and over the years they became inseparable. Marmo began eating Tumult effluvia, and one day transformed into a Chimera while protecting Bash from a Tumult singularity.

Career in the Mines

Bash was hired at the mine on a recommendation from his mother when old enough to work. He worked for eight years in the Kelon quarries, doing excavation work, salvaging operations, and prospecting. His experience with Suspira’s harsh conditions and Tumult singularities made him valuable to the Expeditionary Corps. He joined the Prospector Guild, which specialized in locating and extracting rare materials.

Leaving Suspira

After eight years of work in the mines, Bash joined the Rediscovery Endeavor as part of the vanguard. His skills in mining, salvaging, and dealing with Tumult conditions made him well-suited for exploration work in the Terra Incognita.

Timeline

368 AC - Reprocessor Operations

Bash worked on ore reprocessing to filter impurities and extract precious materials needed for the Rediscovery Endeavor.

370 AC - Kelon Elemental Prospecting

Subhash used a Kelon Elemental in Suspira mines a thousand feet underground, releasing the axolotl-like creature from its cage to locate Kelon veins while working in sulfur-saturated air with other suited miners.

371 AC - Tinker Bell Equipment Repair

Subhash summoned Tinker Bell Eidolon to repair his damaged gauntlet, using Alteration to shrink his toolbox for her to use while enduring her dragon-like temper and tinkling displeasure.

373 AC - Salvager Recycling Operations

Subhash worked under a demanding Lead Salvager in recycling operations on Suspira as mines became depleted, sorting and collecting materials for reuse to keep up the pace for the Rediscovery Endeavor.

374 AC - Reprocessor Crane Operations

Subhash operated a motorized crane at the Recyclery on Suspira, loading scrap metal onto a mobile Reprocessor’s conveyor belt while Marmo settled under his seat.

378 AC - Brassbug Hub Discovery

Subhash explored vast caverns behind The Foundry to investigate why Brassbugs were moving slowly, discovering their self-constructed charging stations—enormous metal spheres distributed throughout the hive with workers marching to and from them in single file.

378 AC - Brassbug Hive and Queen Discovery

Subhash discovered the Brassbugs Queen in a large honeycombed sphere, observing her reproductive cycle as she ejected blue pellets that workers gathered while others fed her liquid Kelon, realizing the creatures possessed a complete social system rather than suffering a malfunction.

386 AC - Scrambler Antenna Deployment

Subhash climbed a mountain summit with the Jammer to set up Scrambler antennas, connecting the equipment to Kelon cylinders while Marmo waited comfortably on a rock, then camped overnight before continuing to three more installation sites.

391 AC - FarFetch Testing Incident

Sierra’s FarFetch Automaton test caused an explosive disaster that burned Subhash’s beard after a Kelon cylinder reached saturation while the machine attempted to pull an oversized load.

392 AC - Kelon Mining Cave Exploration

Bash explored cave tunnels with Marmo, using a dorsal antenna to part Tumult mist and summoning a Kelon Elemental to detect Kelon deposits.

392 AC - Armored Jammer Deployment

Subhash deployed shielded Jammers alongside Treyst operating an armored tank beyond The Rampart of Asgartha, covering the advance of Ordis and Bravos troops while avoiding frontline combat.

392 AC - Gambling on the Ouroboros

Bash gambled in the casino aboard The Ouroboros where Mack, Waru Toowoom’s ermine Alter Ego, observed him gathering intelligence.

393 AC - Frozen Lake Rescue

Subhash sprinted across breaking ice on a frozen lake at Storvhit after a full day of marching when Nyala, a young Lyra, fell through weakened ice, using his Construct to envelop Marmo in a heat shell before sending him into the water and summoning a Walrus Eidolon with sonar rig to locate her.

393 AC - Comforting Nyala

Subhash summoned Little Match Girl Eidolon to comfort the traumatized Nyala, with the red-haired Eidolon striking matches whose sparks transformed into metal butterflies and fireflies to distract her from her ordeal.

393 AC - Rocket Puffin Reconnaissance

Subhash used his Construct to summon a puffin Eidolon equipped with Icarus’s jetpack to pierce the fog blanketing the frozen lake and locate Nyala’s Lyra caravan, with Marmo bringing the portable monitor to display the topographical readings that also revealed a massive canyon crossing the ice.

393 AC - Investigating Cold with Lord Kelvin

Subhash observed Lord Kelvin experimenting on the nature of cold at Storvhit, with the Eidolon freezing and liberating Mushs to investigate his theory that the region’s cold was artificial and being generated by something rather than occurring naturally.

393 AC - Sitar Performance and Meeting Vera Valesquia at Storvhit

Subhash played sitar equipped with Alteration module working like Construct, with each note acting as Khyalo symbol triggering specific memories tied to melodies. Performance of Prakash Ruggeveen’s RWV 416 “The Lament” summoned ghostly figures including Kavuri Kadis, Navin Kadis, Marmo, Chatur, and Sunder from memories. Vera Valesquia, journalist from Arkaster Echo, witnessed performance from bunk bed in dorm and introduced herself offering coffee from personal stash. Vera requested interview for “Faces of Rediscovery” profile series, offering to send copy to Subhash’s family. She revealed The Ouroboros moved upstream to investigate topographic anomaly - circular structure possibly containing human ruins - suggesting potential survivors nearby. Vera noted deployment imminent for Subhash, connecting recent relic discovery to possibility of other human settlements.

393 AC - Petitioning for Sap Research

Subhash persistently lobbied a Kelon distribution supervisor at The Refinery for permission to begin Sap research, arguing for weeks until the supervisor—facing a worsening Kelon shortage—finally agreed, at which point Subhash summoned Little Match Girl to deliver a tube of Sap for examination.

393 AC - Brassbug Repair

Subhash repaired a damaged Brassbug he found immobile in his workshop, using a Sap gun as glue to restore its cracked protective backplate in a technique the Ancients called kintsugi.

393 AC - Refinery Conversion Activation

Subhash was present at The Refinery control room during the successful activation of the Kelon-to-Sap conversion, covered in oil and grime from requisitioned maintenance operations, while Marmo greeted Treyst and Rossum.

393 AC - Fluid Research at The Screed

Subhash discussed his research on the mysterious fluid discovered beneath the City of Scholars with Sierra at his workbenches near The Screed’s chasm elevators. He explained the fluid had confirmed energy properties and was stored in underground silos and tanks in huge quantities. Despite having one working machine, they could not replicate it, and adapting it to expedition gear proved slower than expected. Bash mentioned rumors the fluid might be organic in origin and suggested recruiting Muna botanists, specifically Arjun, to help analyze it. He initially theorized the fluid might be Sun Kelon but remained uncertain of its true nature.
